Hello All, and Merry Christmas!
It is going to be a hot Christmas here! We have our foot-and-a-half tall tree decorated with honkey nuts (a native Australian inedible nut) and candy canes. Dave and I are attending a Midnight Mass at a church in the city tonight (Christmas Eve), and tomorrow is church with Dave's family. (Most churches have Christmas morning services regardless what day it is). Then Christmas lunch and dinner with the family. Tuesday is Boxing Day and a public holiday here, so there is an extended family gathering at a relative's home on the beach an hour or so away.
What a few months it has been! Since returning to Australia, Dave and I have moved three times, and will move a fourth time right after New Year's Day. I'll explain why in a moment. Mainly we have been house-sitting, but in-between that we are renting a granny flat (think efficiency apartment except bigger) from some friends we know through church. A granny flat is the term for the addition to a home used to accomodate elderly parents. There is still a lot of stuff of the family's in the flat, so we are learning to conserve space. I am working as a housekeeper again, and Dave at a fish farm. We are both part-time, which is affordable as we do not have many bills or rent to pay.
The reason we can't rent a house or apartment yet is because we may be moving to Indonesia in March. We will find out definites mid-January. Basically, if we go, Dave would be implementing a fish-cage farming business and I would be teaching English and doing community development on an island in east Indonesia. We will tell you more when we are certain that we are going.
So far married life has been interesting- two months together, two apart, and then together again, a wedding and a wedding celebration (January 27), one intercontential move and four moves around our suburb and more to go, friends getting married, friends having babies, and friends passing away, and the big one- the possibility of jobs on a remote Indonesian island.
