The Awful Brink!
Are We There Yet?

©P.J. Mascarenhas, Bombay. Wednesday, 3rd December 2003. Feast of St. Francis Xavier, Apostle of Goa.

My Dear Compatriots,

Today is the feast of the most important Christian in our lives - our very own St. Francis, whom we own up to by the title of Goencho Saib

I do not think that I need to remind you that, though the Apostles Thomas and Bartholomeo had brought us the faith two millenia before, it had soon died out due to the schism of the Assyrians and Chaldeans, going over to the Nestorian heresy, whereby the lands to their east were also detached from the faith until the advent of Vasco da Gama, Albuquerque, St. Francis and others who replanted the faith in our lands.

A year ago, I had written "The Awful Brink" to draw your attention to the extreme peril we find ourselves in as Christians. The pagans have always hated Christ, the Son of God. They murdered Sts. Thomas and Bartholomeo in Madras and Kalyan, respectively. They persecuted and encompassed our ancestors before the advent of the Portuguese, and reduced and degraded them.

Since the terrorist acts of 1954 and the invasion and occupation that began 19th December 1961, the pagans have been vehemently persecuting us once again. This time, during the first phase, their persecution was more economic than religious — we Goans have been notoriously and systematically excluded, by policy, from government jobs and positions and from private employment, etc. Now, however, having done the groundwork, the pagans are confident enough to undertake even a physical, religious persecution.

All throughout India, the pagans have, in the last three to four years, whipped up a hysterical campaign to terrorize the uninformed and ilformed Christians into apostasizing. Hundreds of thousands have already succumbed. And now come even more bad news — the venial, nominal Christian Ajit Jogi has lost the Chhatisgarh provincial elections to the rabid Christian baiter and the Raja of Jashpur, Dilip Singh Judeo, the principal protagonist of this campaign of Ghar-vapasi — of a return to Satan, to idolatry and to superstitions, etc...

But this is not all. Chhatisgarh is far from Goa. Why, Goans may ask, should we be bothered about happenings in Chhatisgarh and Vindhyanchal and other regions of Central India that are so far away from us?

I would advice you to look up an interesting newsarticle carried on the Goancauses list: Message #12800. This is a statement by the Congress Party's Goa General Secretary Vijay Sardessai in response to a statement by theIndian Union's Deputy Minister, Xripad Naique. Towards the end, Sardessai said that "Shripad should desist from attempting to usher in the reconversion or 'ghar vapasi' drive in Goa as it is not a tribal state and more so after the Judeo video bribe case." This is an oblique reference to the BJP's conspiracy to bring the same pogram of satanism and demonism to Goa also, to which the BBC in a recent bulletin (about two months or so ago) had alluded.

Let us not delude us about the true intentions of Vajpayee or Parricar. The BJP has always venomously hated St. Francis and sought to reverse his work, by which we have become children of the light when we used to be, like them, the children of the dark.

We have delayed too long as it is. More delay can be fatal.

I ask you, my fellow Goans, to take the opportunity of this holy day, the commemoration of our holy Father in the Faith, St. Francis Xavier, and to commence quickly the work to restore and liberate our holy mother Goa, daughter of saints and martyrs, from the stifling hands of pagan India.

Let us concentrate on this task. I ask Goans to set up two organisations towards this end, one political and military, the other social, and to set up funds and to collect funds to further our ends.

I ask Goans to work to defend our faith, to catechize those who are weak in the faith.

But how shall we catechize if we ourselves are weak in the faith? Therefore, I request all Goans to get your hands on good Catholic literature. The best is Frs. Rumble & Carty's The Radio Replies, 1940, available from TAN Books, USA, costing about a thousand rupees — they are worth their weight in gold! The St. Paul's order used to stock them, and I believe that they will, if requested, import copies.

Other good and supplementary literature are the books and pamphlets of Dr. Rama Coomaraswamy and the Interdum of Patrick Henry Omlor; lastly, Benns & Bawden's Will The Catholic Church Survive The 20th Century?. There is a need to translate these works into the Concannim.

Let us not delay any longer. We are already on the precipice. Only St. Francis and our Lord Christ Jesus can save us. But for that, we too must cooperate with our Lord and with our Apostle... Time is running out. Let us act now!
