Secessionists in the Brahmaputra Basin

Karbi Anglong - United People's Democratic Solidarity (UPDS) composed of two former secessionist outfits – the Karbi National Volunteers (KNV) and the Karbi People's Front (KPF) seek the secession of the Karbi-Anglong nation of the north Kachar district of the Assam province of the Indian Union.

Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council seek the independence of the Khasi or Hynniewtrep nation of the Indian Union’s "Meghalaya" province.

The Achik Matgrik Liberation Army (AMLA) and the Achik National Volunteer Council seek the independence of the Achik nation of the western part of the Indian Union’s "Meghalaya" province.

The Chin People’s Freedom League, the Zomi Liberation Army, the Zomi Revolutionary Army (ZRA), the Zomi Revolutionary Volunteers (ZRV) etc seeks the liberation of the Zo (Zome, Mizo or Chin) nations of Zogam, straddling the Indian Union, Burma and Bangladesh.

Orgs fighting for the secession of the Kangleipak or Meitei nation of the Manipur valley in the Manipur province of the Indian Union: the United National Liberation Front (UNLF), the People’s Liberation Army (PLA), the People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK). The above mentioned three groups now operate from a unified platform, the Manipur People’s Liberation Front (MPLF). Also the Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP), the Kanglei Yawol Kunna Lup (KYKL), the Manipur Liberation Tiger Army (MLTA), the Iripak Kanba Lup (IKL), the People’s Republican Army (PRA), the Kangleipak Kanba Kanglup (KKK) and the Kangleipak Liberation Organisation (KLO).

Orgs fighting for the secession of the Reang or Bru nation, which speak KauBru, in the Tripura, Mizoram & Kachar territories of the Indian Union and the Chittagong Hills District of Bangladesh.

The Bodo Liberation Tigers (BLT) and the National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) which seek the secession of the Bodo or Kachar nation inhabiting the (south) Kachar district (the Barak valley or basin) and in the main Brahmaputra valley, the north banks while the United Liberation Front of Assam fights for an independent Assam.

In the Naga inhabitated regions divided between the Indian Union and Burma, the 24 Naga nations have, from the very beginning, before India’s independence, rejected inclusion in either, and demanded a separate state of their own, which was not granted by the British. They therefore declared Unilateral Independence, not recognised by either India or England, of the Nagalands. Today, the orgs continuing this fight against the Indian Union and Burma are the two factions of the National Socialist Council of Nagaland – the larger Isak-Muivah faction and the smaller Khaplang faction.

The Kuki nation inhabitating a part of the Manipur province of the Indian Union, to the east of and above the Manipur valley, are represented by the Kuki National Front (KNF), the Kuki National Army (KNA), the Kuki Independent Army (KIA), the Kuki Defence Force (KDF), the Kuki International Force (KIF), the Kuki National Volunteers (KNV), the Kuki Liberation Front (KLF), the Kuki Security Force (KSF), the Kuki Revolutionary Front (KRF) and the United Kuki Liberation Front (UKLF).

The Kamatapur Liberation Organisation (Klo) and Koch-Rajbongshi Liberation Organisation (Krlo) seek either a separate province or independence for the Kamta or Koch ("Koch-Rajvanshi") nation inhabitating the Koch Behar distict etc in the north of the West Bengal province of the Indian Union.

The Rabha nation of the Assam province of the Indian Union, led by the Rabha National Security Force (RNSF) also seeks to secede.
