That's why I used the word "seem". ;>

I stand to be corrected. Which is why I asked the list.

Well, I'm sure the info on their site are kinda biased towards them. After finding out a bit more abt them, they seem to be termed as Feeneyites, which was founded by Fr Feeny, who was excommunicated. I'm sure there shld be info on them on the Web Site, but I don't seem to be able to find any, even on Dave's site. Mebbie I wasn't looking hard enough. Can someone out there be kind enough to point me in the right direction? I would certainly like to know how the Vatican views them nowadays, and the relationship between them and the Vatican. Thanks.
I believe you would be able to find the Marchetti-Selvagiani (sp?) letter sooner or later. However, it should be noted that Fr. Feeney was never excommunicated for heresy. He was excommunicated for not appearing to face a tribunal in Rome when asked to, although the legality of this has been contested. That Boston case really caused scandal to the entire Catholic world. Because of Fr. Feeney's vocal defense of the dogma EENS, the secular newspapers of the day gave headlines like : "Pope declares there is salvation outside the Church", "EENS is wrong", et cetera....

Whatever it is, Fr. Feeney was reconciled with the Vatican under Pope Paul VI. IRONICALLY, Fr. wasn't required to deny his stance on EENS as usually needed for heretics to be reconciled with the Church. In fact, one of the creeds Fr. recited that day in the presence of 3 bishops (I think) was the Quicumque vult (the Athanasian Creed) which in the first paragraph clearly defends the dogma EENS.

As for the status of the Slaves today, there are currently 8 religious houses called Saint Benedict Center. I won't delve into that now, but some have been "regularized" or absorbed into other religious orders. The staunchest proponent of EENS remains with SBC Richmond, New Hampshire and SBC Still River, Massachusetts. I only know that SBC NH masses are celebrated by priests with the indult. I do not know about the other SBCs. In their latest Mancipia newsletter, they claimed that the late Bishop Harrington of Worchester wanted to nominate SBC NH's superior, Br. Francis into the International Theological Commission. Whether that's true or not remains to be seen.

Hope this helps.

This topic was covered quite extensively over a year ago before we moved the list to the Catholic Information Network........I did not save any of those emails however. I believe we concluded that they are outside of Catholic doctrine regarding the salvation of non-Catholics. They teach absolutely that heaven is not attainable for non-Catholics. Period. No exceptions.

Klete
And that is the Catholic dogma defined once and for all. No exceptions when it comes to Catholic truth. I'm surprised that some people who are staunchly defending Catholic dogma can make exceptions for this one: EENS.
