A gentle sax introduces Vanessa’s smooth vocals over a tender rhythm section filled with luscious harmonies Too many take the easy road. . .Too many lack the patience to wait long enough to witness the fruit of their labors. Those who rest in His arms will receive a just reward.
During the early nineties Richard Lightsey, a youth pastor at the Church that our group, Selah, lead Sunday morning praise at, asked me to look at his song. I noticed that it had some good lyrics and nice musical ideas, but parts of it seemed a bit awkward. So I rolled up my creative sleeves and hacked at it a bit myself. The result of this combined effort was Michael’s Song.
It was written to a friend of Richard’s as an encouragement to fight on with the battle that God has laid before us. Yet, those who fight can also find solace and peace while resting in the everlasting arms of Christ. It is a no-lose situation for believers!
The instrumentals came together right away and Selah was excited at the prospect of learning the piece. So, it came together very quickly. When we went to record it we called upon the premier jazz saxophonist, Paul Perez, to add his touch to it with most excellent results! Paul Cierely came added some great jazz guitar licks to round out this piece featuring the smooth vocals that Vanessa always delivers.
All-in-all it has turned out to be a relaxing peace that encourages all of us who work for God’s kingdom to rest in his arms.
