| AThousand Souls Passed by Today |
| A Thousand Souls passed by today On September 11............. A thousand souls passed by today A thousand souls sent God's way. I heard them pass, a wake perhaps high in quaking aspen crown leaves in autumn quiver whisper of the rain, but have no drops wet to fall I heard them pass, a wish perhaps, under pines in sighing winds lay hush upon a vanished shore, where ocean waves, hiss, then breach inside a quiet hall I saw them pass, beyond, at last, over fields rippling silent furls, on crests of golden autumn grain, riding swells of sweeping tide where I, staring helpless, see them sailing swift away.
