BONNIE SPROAT
I am a pure prairie woman....born, raised and resided my entire life in Saskatchewan. Growing up in this land of flat prairie fields and unending skies instillined in me the wonders, not only for the nature of this world, but the universe as well. Anyone who has lain on their back in a dark prairie field and watched stars that seem close enough to touch, or seen the haunting sensual dance of the indescribably beautiful northern lights, might imagine the influence on me.
Living in the vastness of the prairie space and never-ending skies has had an humbling effect on my art. I like to "get up close and personal" with my subject matter....my attention is drawn to the intimate shapes and forms and colours. I explore the abstractness of colour within the confined contours my mind conjurs up when I contemplate the wonders I observe around me.
I have been fortunate to have taken classes from Otto Rogers, Myna Forsythe, Bill Epp and others at the University of Saskatchewan. Over the years, I have taken advantage of an assortment of university extension and community art workshops across the province. I have participated in juried group shows at the University of Saskatchewan; Women in Art Show; Boys and Girls Club Show; galleries (which are no longer in existence) in Lloydminster, Regina and Saskatoon.
