The weather was much more agreeable for this year's luncheon, and the members who were able to attend enjoyed the event.
The winners of this year's Just Desserts contest were: First Place: Entry #1 "Orca" by Lynn Crandall, and Second Place: Entry #5 "Untitled" by Robyn Bielawski. Good job to everyone who entered this year, all of the entries were very good and Ramona reported that the scores were very close!
The following was read by our president, Lynn Crandall, during the presentation of the 2008 chapter awards:
Service Award
HiDee is a long-standing member who has always been a very active member in her contributions to the chapter. But this past year she volunteered to take on the huge task of updating the chapter’s bylaws, and she did it well, too, so we passed national’s inspection with flying colors. She also volunteered to tackle creating our Policy and Procedures manual, in addition to stepping in to take the minutes when Nancy didn’t make the meetings, and she has continued to put together a fabulous newsletter.
Robyn is a newer member, but right from the beginning she stepped in to help out as a volunteer. She has updated our Web site and this year she continued to keep it current and attractive.
A for Effort Award
Each member who submitted a list of things she’d done with her writing this year proved she has been active. Lists included submissions of books to editors and agents, writing and submitting short stories and poetry, writing pages, and revising and editing, not to mention reading, which is very important too. Everyone deserves to be commended for being dedicated to their writing. This year we have two A for Effort Award winners again: Robyn and Lynn C.
Inspiration Award
Every member is an inspiration. We all live very full lives and yet still make time to work on our writing as much possible. But this year, Robyn’s diligence and courage to put her work out there won our votes for the Inspiration Award.
