The Prairie Dachshund Club is the brainchild of Pat Taylor and Rod Remin. On their way home from DCA national specialty they recognized the need for a Prairie based club to hold it's own Specialties in the Canadian Prairies. They went out and promoted the club ideal to the Dachshund Breeders and Exhibitors across   the three Prairies Provinces ~ Alberta ~ Saskatchewan ~ Manitoba.
In 1986 ~ The Prairie Dachshund Club ~ was born.Cathy McMillan was asked to design a logo for us with a distinct prairie flavor. Cathy's design is of a typical Dachshund in the wind swept wild prairie grasses framed by a full moon. The club quickly grew from a few to over twenty members.
In 1987 we received official club status from the Canadian Kennel Club. We worked hard and did the required sanction matches in 1987 & 1988.
Our first Specialty was held in the fall of 1989 at Regina, Saskatchewan. Since then we have held a rotating specialty each year between the three provinces . In recent years we have been holding two Specialties per year. Each year we hold a specialty in conjunction with Western Canada's largest outdoor show in August at Calgary, Alberta. The second specialty is held on a rotating bases between the other two provinces.
The great distance between our members has been a challenge over the years. Our main source of communication and information has been  the newsletter " The Prairie Patter". This along side the dedication of the founding members have kept us going over the years.
In 2002  we decided it would serve us well to add a web site to our resources. This along side our Patter and a strong membership will carry us forward into the future.
