| My Influential Teacher |
|
As I am a school administrator, I certainly have a model of a good administrator who influences me to work as an assistant principal in Prangthip Kindergarten. But this person is not only a typical teacher and administrator who taught me in a school but also she is the first teacher in my life. My influential teacher is my mother, Mrs. Prangthip Thaveepanit. She is the director of her own private kindergarten in Bangkok, Thailand. Besides she is my mother, there are many more reasons why she is my influential teacher. The first reason why my mother is my influential teacher is that she is a strong and successful working woman. After her graduation of her master program in K-12 Educational Administration from Michigan State University 26 years ago, my mother went back to Thailand and founded a kindergarten and a nursery called Prangthip Kindergarten in Bangkok, Thailand. She uses her name "Prangthip" as the name of this school. She worked as the director of the school and recruited a principal and 2 new teachers. At that time, there were only 20 students. As she is a strong and hard-working woman, this school grows gratefully. Now, the number of students increase to 450 students while the number of staff are 40. The building is also expanded from only 1 building to 5 buildings. Because of her, this school becomes one of the top ten kindergartens in Bangkok, Thailand. Therefore, her success is one of the best examples that can teaches me to work hard to success. Another reason why my mother is my influential teacher is her love to her students. She always says that teaching children is like sculpturing. In fact, to sculpturing, when we carve finely, the result of our work will be beautiful. Compare to educating, if we begin teaching children delicately since they are young, they will grow up as good citizens. In addition, she always treats her students as she treats her own children and teaches them only good things. If she wants her students to respect others, she shows them that she respects them first by listening to them. Then, she orients her staff and parents to treat children the same way she does. Moreover, she tries to remember all names of her students and talks to them everyday so that students do not feel lonely. Thus, her love to students influences me to be an administrator who treats students as they are the most important people. Furthermore, her leadership and supervision style influences me to be a good leader like her. In addition, she always encourages her staff to improve their tasks and to develop themselves. For example, when teachers have any new idea, my mother always encourages them to realize the project. As a result, teachers are active and creative in their work. Moreover, she always concerns individual's needs and opinions. Many teachers in her school told me that they feel happy to work with my mother because she always listens to everyone and shows that she intends to help them. Also, she treats her peers like her sisters and brothers. So, everyone feels that they are in the same family and has the sense of belongingness. Furthermore, she never leaves her staff alone. When her staff have any problem in working or in personnel life, she always supports them. Her office door always opens to everyone who needs her help. If I can be a principal, I will follow her instructions. The next reason why my mother is my influential administrator is the way she can get along well with everybody such as teachers, staff, students and parents. She always smiles to everyone and talks with everyone friendly. As a result, everyone loves her and always talks about her in many good ways. Finally, she is not only a good administrator in her workplace but also she is a wonderful mother and wife in our family. Even though she works very hard, she goes home and has dinner with us everyday. She always stays with my brother, my sister and me whenever we need her help. And she always supports my father when he feels stress because of his work. Therefore, she is the strongest mother and wife because she has to support us while she rarely shows us her fatigue. She always smiles and tries to please everyone. That makes me feel guilty because she always sacrifices her life just for us whereas, sometimes, I did something bad to her. Since I was born, she brought me to her office which is located near my house. Thus, I grew up in the kindergarten and observe its development gradually. When I was young, I only knew that my mother had to work hard because that was her duty. Nevertheless, nowadays, as I grew up and as I am studying in Educational Administration, I understand that my mother is one of the best administrators in the world. Furthermore, her work is not only her duty but also it is her life. She never stops developing herself because the world changes each day. When I study some new methods in my class in MSU, I can realize that I already saw them in my mother's instructions such as her good leadership style. Also, she tries to update new methods from my classes. She never stops growing herself. In conclusion, due to her strong and successful character; her great leadership and supervision style; her love to students; her good relationship with others; her intention to improve herself and her care of her own family, she always makes me proud of her. As this kindergarten is a part of her life, it is a part of my life as well. In her dream, she intends to develop her students, staff and school. As a result, to keep following her dream which is also my dream, I will help her grow her students, staff and school. I hope that, one day, I will be a good administrator like my mother who is my influential teacher. And that day, I will make my children proud of me as I always proud of my mother.
