Chapter 3:
S: JASON!!
I asked you a question. Did you
use a condom?
Jason fumbled with the
words his mouth all of a sudden as dry as cotton. " I, we uh
."
S: Yes or No Jason?
J: No I didn't.
Sonny got up and made his
way over to the bar. He clutched the
sides of the bar, his head hanging low and took a deep breath trying not to
explode. "Do you know if
Caroline is on the pill?"
J: I don't know.
Sonny lost it and cleared
the bar with one sweep of his hands.
Glass and liquor flying everywhere.
Jason jumped in his seat on the couch.
"Damn it Jason you need to start thinking with you head not
your dick. What are you going to do if
that little girl is pregnant? You ready
to throw your life and your future away on some piece of ass?"
Jason stood up and faced
the man he thought of as a father, rage filling him completely. "Dont you ever talk about her
like that, I told you I love her and if she is pregnant I will take
responsibility for the baby and I will be a good father."
S: Really, and how do you plan on supporting
Caroline and a baby? Jesus Jason you
are in high school for god's sake!
J: I will get a job.
Sonny started to laugh
sarcastically. This kid had no idea how
cold the world could be and what the hell he had gotten himself into. "Fine! I think you should go up to your room Jason."
Not wanting to press his
luck, Jason turned and headed up the stairs for his room.
Spencer House:
Laura held her daughter as
she cried. Unfortunately Laura was
beginning to realize Carly and Jason hadn't used any protection. She remained calm her training from the
clinic kicking in. Laura pulled away
and lifted her daughter's chin up. "Carly
look at me."
Carly lifted her eyes to
meet her mother's she was trying to catch her breath from crying so hard. "First you need to calm
down. Carly I am not going to yell at
you but I need to know if you and Jason used any protection."
Carly barely got out a
muffled "No." Laura closed her eyes briefly afraid for her daughter.
L: Okay.
Honey do you know if this was Jason's first time?
C: Yes we were both virgins.
A deep sigh escaped Laura.
"Are you sure that this was
Jason's first time?" Carly
didn't doubt Jason's sincerity for a second and answered her mother
quickly. "Yes I am
sure."
L: Okay then hopefully we don't have to worry
about any sexually transmitted diseases, but you will have to be tested to make
sure.
C: Mom!
I don't need any testing.
L: Caroline Spencer, you will be tested young
lady. You obviously feel you are old
enough to make adult decisions now you need to face the adult
consequences.
Carly remained quiet while
her mother continued.
L: I think we also need to discuss the
possibility that you could become pregnant.
C: But it was my first time.
L: Caroline you know that it only takes having
unprotected sex once to become pregnant.
Are you ready to be a mother? To
give up school and support yourself and a baby?
C: No!
L: Then we need to consider the "morning
after pill".
C: What?
L: The morning after pill is emergency
contraception. It is actually a series
of high-dosage hormone pills.
C: I don't understand.
L: Well EC is actually like taking 4 birth
control pills at once. The high dosages
of hormones actually prevent a woman from ovulation, thus not allowing you to
get pregnant.
Carly burst into
tears. "I'm so sorry
mom." Laura took her
daughter into her arms and held her.
L: Honey its going to be okay. You made a mistake, granted a big mistake
but its one you will learn from and certainly one we will get through.
Suddenly panicked Carly
popped up fear written all over her face.
"Mom you can't tell dad!" Laura took her daughters hands in hers to
reassure her.
L: I won't tell your
dad. There is no reason to get him all
worked up, plus I think he would probably kill Jason.
Carly closed her
eyes. She knew her mom was right her
dad would kill Jason. "Thank
you mom."
L: I love you honey. I know you are growing up but you will always be my baby
girl. Now lets get down to the
clinic. You are going to have an exam
and some tests done and talk to doctor Meadows. And when this is over with Caroline, there are going to be some
new rules that YOU WILL FOLLOW.
Carly lowered her head and
just nodded. Laura stood up holding
her hand out to her daughter.
Jason paced his room like
a caged animal. Things were out of
control and he didn't know how to deal with everything. One thing he did know was he needed to talk
to Carly. He picked up the phone and
dialed her number letting it ring and ring. "Where are you Carly?" he said out loud in
frustration. He slammed the phone down
and flopped on his bed and closed his eyes.
After only a few moments of silence he flipped on his stereo hoping that
music would help fill the silence and the time.

Later that Afternoon/Spencer House:
After a long afternoon of talking, testing and an exam Carly
tiredly trudged into her room and crawled into bed. She was exhausted and all she wanted to do was sleep for
days. Never had she thought that having
sex with someone would bring with it such big time responsibilities. Her talk with Dr. Meadows had opened her
eyes to a lot of things. There was
never any doubt that she loved Jason and that being with him for the first time
was incredible, but after learning about all the things she needed to be
careful of she realized they really need to sit down and talk before things
went any further.

Laura knocked on her daughter's door and slowly opened
it. "Honey how are you
doing?"
C: I'm okay.
Laura entered and sat down on her daughter's bed and brushed away the hair
from her face. "Honey I know
this was a hard afternoon for you. I am
just thankful that your exam went well and that you are okay. Are you experiencing any of the side effects
that Dr. Meadows talked about?"
C: Not really, I just have some
cramps, but nothing major.
L: Good.
C: Thank you for everything mom.
L: Your welcome baby girl. I
just want you to be safe and happy. I
know you love Jason very much but you are both so young and you have your whole
lives ahead of you.
C: Your not going to make me
stop seeing him are you?
L: No sweetie I like Jason. We will go over some new rules later though.
C: I know.
L: I just want you to be careful and despite what your father says I
know I can't lock you up forever.
Carly smiled at the mention of her dad.
"He really would lock me up if he could wouldn't he?"
Laura laughed "Oh yeah.
But thats just your dad. He has
a unique way of showing his love."
L: Sweetie try to get some rest and if you need anything just holler. She leaned down and kissed her forehead.
Carly snuggled down deeper into her pillow and closed her eyes. "I love you mom."
L: I love you to.
Laura closed Carly's door and let out a deep sigh. "I just hope I can keep Luke from
finding out about this. I better give Sonny a call."
Meanwhile
Jason has gotten tired of being held up in his room and
not being able to get in touch with Carly so he decides to sneak out and pay
her a visit.
Laura & Sonny's Conversation:
After checking on Caroline, Laura made her way into her bedroom. She closed the door and looked up Sonny's number. She dialed with mixed emotions, hoping that by making this call things would not blow up any further.
Sonny answered the phone. "Hello"
L: Hi Sonny, this is Laura
Spencer.
S: Hi Laura, I was expecting to
hear from you. I want to apologize
right up front for Jason's lack of judgment.
L: Sonny, Jason isn't the only
one here who used poor judgment both of the kids obviously got caught up in the
moment and didn't think before they acted.
S: I suppose you want Jason to
stay away from Carly?
L: No I like Jason he is a good
kid and my daughter loves him.
S: Even though I think Jason is
too young to know about true love. I do
know he truly believes he is in love with Carly.
L: I think we both can remember
being young and in love. This maybe
just a passing phase for them, but then again it may be true love. I don't think that it is for us to decide.
S: Okay I will keep an open
mind.
L: Sonny I just wanted to let
you know that I took Carly to the clinic this afternoon and she was prescribed
the morning after pill, so there is no concern about her becoming
pregnant.
S: So she wasn't on the pill?
L: No she wasn't. Look Sonny I think that we need to sit down
with the kids and set up some rules.
S: I think that is a great
idea. Does Luke know about this?
L: NO! I was hoping that you would agree to keep this between us for the
meantime.
S: I think that would be a good
idea.
L: Good. I will talk to Carly and give you a call back
to set up a time when we can all sit down together.
S: Great. Thanks Laura.
Jason climbed the familiar
old oak tree skillfully; he had used this tree to sneak into Carly's room time
and time again and knew exactly what branches were sturdy and which ones were
weak. Once he reached her balcony he
turned the door latch and smiled finding that it was open.
Quietly pushing the glass
doors open he stepped inside her room. He
spotted her immediately snuggled under the covers in bed and approached her
side. Kneeling down beside her he stared
a few minutes at her before touching her face while whispering her name, "Carly
..Carly,
wake up".
Carly sat up startled and
upset "Jason what the hell are you doing?"
