Jason enters Harbor View Towers, and heads up to see Sonny. Francis is outside the door.
F: Hey Jason.
J: Francis is he in?
F: No I haven't seen him since he left last night.
J: Well he has to come home sooner or later, I am going to go in a wait for him.
Jason enters the penthouse and is struck with how deafening silent it was without Michael and Carly. Before when he walked in he would usually see Michael playing with his toys spread all over the living room and Carly's laughter always seemed to fill the place. He knew his talk with Sonny wasn't going to be pleasant and walked around the room and felt himself thinking about Carly's kiss at the airport. He touched his lips with his finger. What was going on, where were these feelings coming from? He was supposed to be trying to start on anew chapter in his life with Liz, even though lately he feels as though something is missing.
He walked toward the mantel and picked up a picture of Carly and Michael. They used to be his family. He couldn't believe Michael had called him "daddy" at the airport, he had loved hearing those words. It had broken his heart to see them him get on the jet without him. It was more than just Michael, he felt a wash of sudden loss fill him as he remembers Carly leaving also. She was still his best friend and he can't remember a time in his life when she wasn't there for him.
Sonny exits the elevator and sees Francis at the door. He breathes a sigh of relief knowing that if Johnny wasn't on the door that Carly must have taken Michael to the park and Johnny was their guard, so he must be with them. He opens the door and sees Jason holding a picture of Michael and Carly.
S: Hey man, what are you doing here?
J: We need to talk about Carly.
S: I suppose she went running to you last night. (he says sarcastically)
J: As a matter of fact, we did talk. Sonny, what the hell is going on here. Have you even really looked at Carly lately? She looks terrible, she has gotten so thin and you can tell she is exhausted.
S: She is MY WIFE, Jason! You need to mind your own business. They way I handle my marriage is no concern of yours.
J: Not when it comes to Carly and Michael I won't, they will always be my business. I won't sit by while my best friend is falling apart and I can help her. My god Sonny I thought you loved her. Can't you see how all of this is effecting Michael?
S: ENOUGH JASON!! They stopped being your business, when you walked away from them a year ago. And I am not discussing how I feel about Carly with you - she is my wife and I will handle her anyway I choose.
J: Well walking away was MY mistake, one that I have regretted. Sonny you don't "handle" someone you love. You talk about her like she is a burden to you. That is not acceptable anymore.
S: What the hell does that mean?
J: It means that Carly and Michael have left. They are somewhere safe, Johnny is with them and they don't want to be found.
S: Where the hell are they Jason? You had no right... (before Sonny could finish Jason gets right up in his face)
J: You need to take a good look back over things Sonny. The woman I saw last night was a shell of the spitfire that used to exist. She was drowning man, and SHE ASKED ME to get her out. She WANTED OUT! At first I tried to talk her out of it, then I actually shut up and listened to her. You don't treat someone you supposedly love like you have been doing Sonny. Carly's decision to make a life with you has COST her dearly in more ways than one and last night was the final straw. She wants to move on with her life without you and focus on giving Michael a safe and happy life.
Jason turns to walk away, he stops before leaving and hands Sonny an envelope.
J: "Carly asked me to give this to you".
S: This isn't over Jason.
J: It is OVER SONNY! and with that he walked out the door leaving Sonny to think about what he has done.
Sonny is furious. He levels everything off the bar to the ground, sending glass flying everywhere. He stands and looks at the mess and turns back to the envelope on the desk. He picks it up, opens it not only was there a letter but Carly had left her wedding rings in it as well. He takes the rings out and begins to read the letter.
Sonny,
I know you are probably furious right now, but Sonny I had to leave. I couldn't take it any longer. You know as well as I do that this marriage if that's what we could call it, wasn't working. Neither one of us trusted each other. I can no longer keep fighting so hard. I am so tired Sonny, and I just don't have it in me anymore. I look back over this past year and I realize I have lost myself. I tried to change to fit into your life, so that I could make you happy. In the process, I have let Michael down. He is just a little boy, Sonny. His life should be carefree and happy, not filled with constant fighting. We failed him.
I am going to try to get myself back together and give him the life he deserves. Please don't try to find us. I am not going to change my mind about this. In the long run if we are both honest with ourselves we know this never would have worked out.
I am grateful for you saving us and getting us out of the Quartermaines. I will never forget that gift of freedom that you gave to me and Michael. I am asking you to again, give us our freedom. You will always have a piece of my heart Sonny. Take care of yourself and go easy on Jase. He is only doing what I asked him to do.
Carly
Sonny closes his eyes as the tears roll down his cheeks. What had he done? He knew she was right, they didn't have a real marriage. Neither one of them could fit into each other's lives, they didn't have trust between them. Sonny couldn't keep her or Michael safe, and she couldn't live with being kept in the dark about things. All they did was fight and that wasn't good for Michael. He only hoped now she would be happy and safe. He knew Jason would keep them safe.
Across Town In the Park:
Jason is sitting on a bench thinking about his conversation with Sonny. Jason had trusted him to keep his family safe and happy. How could he have been so blind. He had been back now for a few months, but was so wrapped up in seeing Liz that he didn't take time to see the signs that were right in front of his eyes. Carly had needed him and he wasn't there fully for her. "I'm so sorry Carly".
Carly's Airplane:
Carly stares out the window. She has just gotten Michael to sleep, and now she was left with her thoughts. That kiss, what was she thinking? She wasn't, that was the problem, she just couldn't help herself, when she looked into Jason's ice blue eyes she couldn't help herself. God that Kiss!! She couldn't stop thinking about it. Now she only hopes that it didn't push Jason away from her. She couldn't imagine not having him in her life.
Johnny looks over and sees Carly staring out the window with such a sad look on her face. He decides to go over and check on her. He hated to see her like this.
J: Carly, how are you doing?
C: I'm hanging in there Johnny. Have you been to the island we are going to before?
J: No, but Renaldo be meeting us there and Jason assures me that you will absolutely love the house.
C: Johnny, THANK YOU! I know I don't say it often enough, especially lately with things being so crazy, but I don't know what Michael and I would do without you. You have become a good friend to us. You know Michael loves spending time with his Uncle Johnny. I am glad you came with us.
J: You're Welcome, but you don't have to thank me for doing something I enjoy. I would never let anything happen to you or Michael. I am just sorry that things were so bad for you this past year. Can I ask you something?
C: Sure.
J: You still love Jason don't you? It's just that I remember when you two were together and how much in love with each other you were. It just seemed like you could never get your timing right. Maybe now is your time.
C: (she smiles thinking of Jason) I will always love Jason, but he doesn't feel the same way about me anymore, he has moved on with his life with Lizzie Webber.
J: I wouldn't be so sure of that just yet. I have seen the two of them together, they don't have that "spark" that you guys have. It won't last.
C: Thanks, Johnny (she says sadly).
J: I'm gonna go check in with the pilot, we should be landing soon.
BACK AT THE PARK:
Jason's cell phone rings. "Morgan"; "Okay Benny, tell him I will head down to Puerto Rico and take care of things." He hangs up and with a big smile on his face thinking "well looks like I will get to see Carly and Michael sooner than I thought." But first he needs to see Liz and see if there is anything between them to hang onto. He heads over to her studio.
Liz's Studio:
Jason sees her inside and walks in.
J: Hey Liz.
L: Hi Jason, what's up, is anything wrong, are you in trouble?
J: (he notices that she is always asking so many questions) No. I just needed to talk to you. I have to go to away for awhile and I was hoping you and I could get some things settled before I left.
L: Okay,
J: Are we going anywhere? I know you have feelings for me but are you ready to move on from Lucky?
L: Jason I love Lucky, I can't change that, I do have feelings for you but I don't know if I can just walk away from Lucky.
Jason approaches her and takes her face in his hands and gently kisses her lips. He was waiting for the sparks, some kind of sign that they were right for each other, but nothing. Certainly not like the kiss he had earlier with Carly, when he felt a million things all at once. He pulls back ....
J: Goodbye Liz. I can't continue on like this. You obviously still want and need Lucky. Go and try to work things out with him. (With that said, he turns and walks out leaving Liz standing there).
He heads back to Jakes to grab a few things and head for the airport. He was gonna miss Carly's face when she first saw the house and went through it, she would be surprised! But at least he could see her and Michael sooner than he thought, which he was thrilled about.
A Small Island off Puerto Rico:
The plane landed and Renaldo met everyone with the limo at the airport and is taking them to Jason's house. They arrive at the house and everyone gets out of the limo and Renaldo shows Leticia, and Reginald in and around, leaving Johnny with Carly and Michael.
J: Carly, let me take Michael for you.
C: Thanks Johnny...she is about to say something else when she looks up and see the house. She is feels like someone hit her in the chest and knocked the wind out of her. What she saw amazed her. It was "their" dream house. It looked exactly like they had discussed sitting on the beach. Johnny notices Carly's reaction and takes her arm to steady her.
J: Carly what is it? Are you alright? He calls for Leticia to come and take Michael and he leads Carly over onto the porch swing on the front porch.
J: Carly say something please!
C: I can't believe it! She is overwhelmed, and starts to remember a night she and Jason had spent together.
Flashback:
Carly and Jason are in front of the fire cuddled up on the couch talking about the future and what they wanted out of life.
C: Jase, do you ever think of moving away from Port Charles?
J: I haven't really thought much about it. Why where would you like to go?
C: Well, lets dream big here okay?
Jason laughs: "Is there any other way with you?"
C: Hey!
He kisses her forehead: "I'm just kidding, tell me about your dream house."
They spent the rest of the night planning their dream house, down to the last detail, including that it had to be on the beach, with a back sun room that had a sand filled floor for them to play and build sandcastles with Michael on cold or rainy days. They also wanted a fireplace in the bathroom and bedroom. And the bathroom had to have a huge shower for two for those times when Jason insisted on showering together and a giant tub for Carly's long baths. And of course a swing on the porch for them to sit on at night together after Michael had gone to bed.
End of Flashback
Carly looks at Johnny with tear filled eyes. She knew he thought she was crazy so she tried to explain.
C: Johnny, this house - it's my dream house, actually mine and Jason's dream house. We used to talk about what our house would be like someday...and THIS IS IT!! She jumps up and grabs his hand. Come on, I need to see more.
They begin walking through the house. Carly spots the sunroom in the back that overlooks the beach. She sees that Michael and Leticia have found it also and are playing in the sand that filled the floor of the room. Jason had built this house, and she never knew about it. She heads upstairs to the master bedroom, leaving Johnny with Michael. She enters the bedroom and starts to cry, it had a fireplace right in front of the bed. She then goes into the main bathroom and it was exactly how they had wanted it to be. She finds herself back in the bedroom laying on the bed crying. Not for the fact that she had just left Sonny or that she was now going to be a single mother on her own, but for the future that she and Jason had planned. She can't believe this place. It was so perfect, the only thing missing was Jason, they were supposed to be a family. Now it was to late. Jason was gone and she was left here in her dream house without Jason to share it with. She knew she needed to get on with her life and concentrate on Michael and his happiness. She would just have to put aside her growing feelings for Jason.
