Running with steel legs.
Date: 4-Jul-2006
Today morning when I woke up, I saw my room mate had returned from our native. He bought his favourite news paper as he came in, 'Dhina Thanthi' (more than 10 lakh of tamilians read everyday!!!).
Lazily I picked up the paper and started reading the headlines. The headlines was about the strike NLC workers planning to launch. The headline says 'Govt plans to sell the stocks to employees. NLC unions plan for an indefinite strike..'.
It sounded cynical to me. Why would somebody object giving stocks to its employees? These unions are crazy. I started reading the news details. The 'inside story' told that our Harward university prime minister actually suggested to sell 10% of the stocks to the private.(I am not sure the headline title convey the same meaning..ok..hope some of our NCR share experts might help..I cannot depend on my pre-kg knowledge on shares anyway.)
Somehow it sounded that either unions are not that crazy OR The Craziest guys you ever met.
When I turned up, my friend went into the bathroom singing (nice memories!! may be). So with nothing else to do urgently(?) I continued reading...
Then there was a news about prostitution. A group photo of a young girl with her allies, an old woman, and a guy. The news said they were caught while attracting people on the road side. Then there was a related box news talking about the decision of the city police to take action on the road-side prostitutes(As Charu nivedita used to say its a degrading term for them, we can call them sex-workers by his alternate word). Recently there was a supreme court statment that said prostitutes should not be treated badly (like publishing their photos on the news paper..beating them up..torturing them with bad words etc..) the govt has taken an alternate for treating such sex-workers. After they are in jail for their crime(?) they would be relocated to rehabilitation centres for some months and given training on handicrafts. The idea seems to be ok. But it succeeds a little becos of the huge income difference (say software engr Vs Onix cleaner).
The case, where a man and a woman willingly with mutual consent engage in such activities, the law would not interfere anyway. The news said, becos of this gap in the law the road side sex-workers have increased in number in Chennai city. So the police is determined to arrest such sex-workers who enthuse people by showing gestures at the road-side and punish them appropriately. "What a responsibility..what a responsibility.." I thought. Bad time for road-side sex-workers. I can say definitely, Police is biased. It is not fair. Isn't it. :-(
Then came the murder news of the school teacher. It's really a horrible news. She was kidnapped for jewels. I could not stop asking 'why killing?'. Why killing?
Already my sleepy nature has gone long time back. My friend was still singing in the bath room loudly. I bet he did not read the news paper yet. Then after the sports news (just fifa worldcup semi-final schedules) I came across a striking photo on the world news side.
It was a recently taken photo. In that photo George Bush was in his track suit and running. There was another person who was running besides him. The person who was a ex-army man from the US army, was much younger than Bush. His face looked so happy than his co-runner George Bush. That person (some Michaey... I forget important things..) was serving in the Iraq war and lost his both legs below waist during a bomb blast. He was running(?!) with metal claws like legs from the waist.
To honor him George Bush invited him to White House and goes on a morning jagging with Michaey.(And bingo!! obviously made the news..). Poor Michaey.. He does not know that the hand that rocks the cradle is the one who squeezed out bombs on him in Iraq.
Fortunately, my friend had come out of the bath room. So I stopped reading further.
Hope God does not make me bombed below my waist today. Even if he does then at least I should have the privilege of not posing with the guy who conspired to bomb me. Thank you God.
