BME NPC held its first ever
Best Team Award ceremony on May 7. The ceremony was probably
the grandest one that BME NPC has ever held to recognise
the good work done by our officers. It was all the more
significant as the event also marked the launching of BME
NPC's 2 initiatives namely, the BME Logo and BME Intranet.
The event started off with
Commander's opening address, followed by CO Dominic John
Baptist's speech on BME NPC's performance in FY 2003. CO's
speech was both humorous and inspiring. He spoke about how
important and heavy our responsibilities are as Singapore
is indeed vulnerable to terrorist threats. And it is up
to us to protect the public from such threats.
After CO's speech, Commander
was invited to launch our BME intranet. The launch, which
was prepared by Sgt Patrick Pang of Team B, was magnificent.
The music was captivating and everyone was appalled by the
launch. After the launch, the Emcee gave a short brief on
the intranet's content.
Following the intranet launch
was the prize presentation. The prize presentation started
off with the 'Best Logo' competition. The winner of the
logo competition, Sgt Ridzwan of Team A, gave a short but
very inspiring speech on how he derived the logo. After
the logo prize presentation was the most significant award
presentation for the day, the 'Best Team' award.
After announcing the 4th and
3rd placing, which belonged to Team B and A respectively,
everyone's heart was pounding hard to hear who won the 2nd
place, as that would inevitably reveal the Champion Team
as well. After a few intense moment, the announcement finally
came, the Emcee announced the 2nd placing team went to Team
C and that means the Champion Team of FY 2003 went to Team
Delta.
Upon announcing the result,
the team leader, Insp Norlinda went up to the stage to receive
the trophy and the challenge shield from CO BME. Thereafter,
Commander and Dy Commander, together with CO and OO BME
took a group picture with the winning team. Insp Norlinda
then gave a heartwarming speech of how she felt winning
the award. She attributed the success to the team officers,
who had done a great job.
The event ended with an inspiring
montage prepared by OO BME. Besides projecting as a report
card for BME NPC in FY 2003, the montage also showed the
different culture and lifestyles of BME NPCOs. Such was
the impact of the presentation that it brought a lot of
joy and laughter to the whole auditorium. The montage ended
with a bang, showing the 'A' Vision that all BME NPCOs endeavour
to achieve. Everyone clapped and cheered at the end of the
montage.
A warm lunch reception ensued
and all officers ate to their hearts' content.
The success of the event was
by no means coincidental. The event planning committee,
which comprised Insp Kok Mun Loong, SSgt Palani, Sgt Yow
Chee Boon, Sgt Pang Zhiwei, Cpl Janette, Sgt Ihsan, Cpl
Victor and Cpl Jack took weeks to prepare for the event.
Every meticulous step had been thought through to ensure
that the ceremony was a successful and memorable one. We
were glad to hear, at the end of the event, that everyone
enjoyed themselves. We received feedback that officers felt
appreciated for the efforts they put in for the NPC.
In my view, this event marked
another milestone in BME NPC's towards its recognition of
the effort put in by our officers. There is indeed no winner
or loser in the Best Team Competition. As long as everyone
puts in their hard work, everyone is a winner. Through this
ceremony though, I hope that the four teams will be more
motivated and strive harder to achieve better result in
the upcoming financial year.
Cheers to BME NPC!
