LETTER WRITING CAMPAIGN

In terms of the INTERNATIONAL CAMPAIGN TO FREE ALI KHALID ABDULLAH, which is suppose to be in operation…I have written to comrade Bart Dalle of ABC Ghent in Belgium and sent to him; 1) a cover letter; b) a draft letter addressed to State Senators and Representatives; and c) a list of State Representatives names and addresses and have asked that the FOCUS of this campaign be to write the State Senators and Representatives (according to the draft letter I had sent, but to use their own style in writing) so that the focus be on the Michigan Paroles Board’s constant refusal of my parole. The reason I wanted to take this particular route was explained fully in my cover letter that I had asked to be included on the a-infos for everyone to read whereby having a complete understanding of my reasoning.

The Michigan Parole Board is under attack and scrutiny by the Federal government who have agents in Michigan looking at the Michigan Parole Board and the tactics and reasons they have been using to keep Michigan Prisons artificially overcrowded. Also, various mainstream newspapers, college professors and lawyers have been writing about the prison system in Michigan and have commented on how Michigan’s parole board are keeping the prisons in Michigan overcrowded by artificially denying eligible prisoners a parole so that the prisons remain full and more tax dollars are used to fuel the many prisons in Michigan, which has become a very lucrative business in this state.

Thus, in my knowing that this is happening I decided that the focus of my campaign release should be adding to this pressure by asking the relevant questions and presenting a strategic letter to various state Senators for them to also review the Michigan Department of Corrections and the parole board. Often these Senators only know what the officials for the prison tell them, and do not know the real activities behind the scenes. The comprehensive letter I put together was a means to get them to shape their focus more so on the parole board over why I am in prison, which is why I framed the draft letter as I did.

However, I have received only ONE letter from an individual who seems to be confused by this and have acted as if they did not know I was in prison for "Assault With Intent to Rob While Armed" which I am sure all of you know because I have exposed this and the reasons why I was given this charge. But this party felt that Senators ought to know this as well, and I disagree. I disagree because that is not the focus of this campaign. The focus should be exactly as I had stated and for the reasons given. If the federal government and news are already breathing down the back of the MDOC and the Michigan Parole Board, why not continue that pressure? Focusing on the reasons why I am in prison only wont do anything to add to the fire that has already begun. It would only distract the fact that the parole board is deviseley out of control.

Also, I crafted the draft letter to the Senators as I did, because if we are going to flood them with letters, we must use a certain CONVENTIONAL tactic and approach. I felt that this is a good approach to use at this time. We must remember, these senators are POLITICIANS and they do not want to be exposed for having received thousands of letters about a parole board THEY oversee and have not done anything. That would be bad publicity for them and political suicide to their careers. They know this and this is why I have chosen this type of line to engage. Now that I have fully explained this…I hope it isn’t hard for anyone to understand and will aid in this effort.

In closing, [understand when arrested] I took a "No Contest" plea so that there is nothing on the record where I admitted that I had done, or gave the reason for what I had done, so that the JUDICIAL record remains cold, and thus not cause possible further investigations into me and my comrades activities, which, ran the risk of us possibly developing cases that would have us never see the streets. And it is for these reasons why I am not able to expose or express anything further here, but I do hope you all are able to clearly understand the seriousness of what I am saying.

With this said, I again, thank you all for your patient understanding and ask that you please, please join in this effort to gain my freedom by applying the pressure needed on the State Senators for my release. Thank you all so much and may we be fighting in every strategy and way we can til ALL ARE FREE!

In the trenches…

COVER LETTER

Dear Comrades:

You will note that I have put together a DRAFT LETTER that can be used to
help support the INTERNATIONAL CAMPAIGN TO FREE ALI KHLID ABDULLAH.

It is important that you read the draft letter carefully and realize that
this is but one strategic move being made to aid in getting State
Representatives and Senators to push for my freedom, but appealing to them
to look into the situation of the parole board’s continuous denial of my
parole. You will note that the language used is non-threatening, hostile,
aggressive or angry and that is on purpose. What is the purpose? To have
these officials do what we ultimately want to achieve. It would not serve me
or what any of are wanting to accomplish (which is my freedom from prison)
if we display our open hate and disgust for the state and their system.
Thus we must use tact and come in this form. NEVER LET YOUR ENEMY KNOW THAT
YOU HATE THEM, BUT ALWAYS GIVE THE APPEARANCE TO THEM THAT YOU WISH TO WORK
WITH THEM. THAT LEAVES THE ENEMY TOTALLY OFF GUARD AND CAN HAVE THEM WORK
FOR YOU.

In this draft letter you will note that it speaks of the parole board using
reasons such as "history of drug/alcohol and polysubstance abuse," which I
feel is necessary to briefly explain to you what the parole board is saying
and how they use the term "history."

There was a period in my life where I was using drugs. A very bad period and
this I will not and cannot deny. However, that was a personal choice and
should not have any bearing on whether or not the parole board have a right
to condem me for what I had done in the distant past. Further, the parole
board uses the term "history." According to the Michigan Parole board, "any
act that was done one or more times" is considered a "history." I do hope
this gives you a better understanding of things so that you aren’t confused.
Do not allow yourself to be confused or diluted by the maze of wording the
parole board loves to use to paint the most negative picture they can about
a person to justify their denying a parole, when the reasons they are using
are mere smoke and mirrors.

I hope that you will all aid in this cause. Further, every one please do not
write the exact same thing. Some may not wish to write that you are a friend
of mine but merely a "supporter" of mine. Use this draft letter as an idea
of what to say. But do not stray too far from its content. Do not give them
room to think beyond what you are saying to them and do not elaborate on the
reasons why I’m in prison or my activities that led to me coming to prison.
Stick with what you see as relevant within the draft. Also, and most
importantly, do not mention aything about being in a anarchist group, or
send any letters on anarchist letter heads, ect. In other words, do not let
them know anything about you being a revolutionary or even the fact that I
am a revolutionary. Again, we are using this tactic for a reason.

All parties who’ve written letters to these officials, please let us know so
we can have them in the future for possible legal reference to show the
overwhelming support we have for my release.

Thank you so much for all your love and support.

DRAFT LETTER

THIS IS ONLY A DRAFT FORM LETTER THAT CAN BE USED AS AN EXAMPLE

[Place your full name and address here very clearly]

The Honorable -------
State Senator
State Capitol

Date

Dear Senator ------ :

My name is (put your name here), and I am forwarding this letter to you over
my concerns for a very dear friend of mine named Ali Khalid Abdulla #148130,
who is a prisoner at the Thumb Correctional Facility in Lapeer, Michigan.
Ali has been denied parole, to my understanding, 5 times by the Michigan
Parole Board. However, it is my understanding that the parole board
continues to deny him parole based on basically the same things that the
court had already taken into account when he was sentenced. For example; the
parole board continues to state the following:
a) Crime was assaultive;
b) victimized a stranger;
c) had a weapon or gave the impression of having a weapon;
d) crime was drug related;
e) has history of drug/alcohol;
f) history of polysubstance abuse;
g) has a juvenile conviction.

On some of his denials it was even stated:

a) Unstable employment history and
b) Unstable domestic history.

>From what I understand, Ali had questioned the issue of "Unstable employment
and domestic history" and was told that the unstable domestic history refers
to him being abused as a child and his home environment, which should not
have any baring or reflection on this man for circumstances he had no
control over. Neither should his should his 1967 juvenile arrest have any
thing to do with what he is in prison for today. Hadn’t he paid for that as
a juvenile?

I know that Ali is in prison for Assault with Intent to Rob While Armed, but
I also know he did not take any thing from the victim, nor harmed the victim
and left the premises voluntarily and without incident. Though what he did
was wrong, he stopped himself from committing any futher aggression.
Shouldn’t this be considered at all?

Ali has openly expressed, on numerous occasions, that he was sorry for the
way things had happened. He has even shared how he had been involved in some
negativity earlier in his incarceration, but he also worked hard to develop
himself and has achieved his Bachelors degree from Spring Arbor College; has
been involved in every substance abuse program offered by the MDOC and has
taken part in various group counseling. He has also partaken in vocational
training and life coping skills. To my understanding he is also very
actively involved in a drug program at the Thumb Facility as its President
called it: People Against Drugs. which is to help other prisoners about the
use and sale of drugs and help prisoners learn to become certified drug
counselor. It would appear that these actions would be commended and
recognized as a complete turn around for a man that at one time had no
college education nor so passionately involved in trying to help others as
he helps himself.

Another thing that the MDOC nor the Parole Board know about Ali is the fact
that he is well known all over the world as a prolific writer, teacher,
social educator, instructor and counselor to many youth through out the
world, and a humanitarian. He has written an abundance of materials that
have reached around the world and earned him the admiration, respect, and
much praise among many, especially young people who have read of Ali’s life
struggles and have found valuable lessons and meaning in what he has shared.
Ali has shown, through his writings, a deep commitment to seeing racism,
sexism, and homophobia cease to exist in society by reaching into the minds
of others hoping he will get other to realize that we are all one people.
Ali has written much about the need to protect and preserve our ecosystems
and wildlife. It is things like this that have earned Ali such global
respect and acknowledgement. He has always insisted that his writings be
used to help others and that the sales of any of his writings and all
proceeds from what he believes in and would help change the suffering
conditions of others. These are the human traits of Ali Khalid Abdullah, the
compassionate traits that aren’t readily seen or known by the Michigan
Parole Board, but should be known and taken into consideration.

If Ali is continuing to be held in prison as a perceived threat to society,
then how could he have gained such love from people all over the world? I’m
sure no one is asking anyone to view Ali as an angel. None of us are that.
But we are asking that this man be given a chance to prove himself (with
what he has earned, and gained during this incarceration) beyond the prison,
and let him begin to live a productive life. We know that often times it may
be necessary to impress upon an individual that his/her actions are to be
acountable. How ever, for Ali, who’s served his minimum sentence and since
1996 has been eligible for parole and has received five denials, and mind
you, from 1997 to 2000 did not receive any misconducts and was still denied
parole. Clearly, if he was such a menace and threat he probably would be in
a high security facility, but from what I can see, he is not and he has no
problems with the staff, nor a management problem.

It is my hope, and hope for all who truly care about Ali Khalid Abdullah,
that you will consider this letter and see that his continual denial of
parole simply is not substantially justifiable.

Thank you so much for your time in reading this long letter, and your
efforts in doing what you can to look into the matter.

Respectfully,
