| My My StoryStory | ||||
| I am Amber K. Peck. I have raised rabbits for many years, however I began my adventure in 4-H taining a pug named Otis. He taught me more about life than most people I know . Before Otis and 4-H I was very Shy, although with him at my side I felt as if I was not alone. Throughout our years together he taught me the art of setting goals and accomplishing them, he represented the true meaning of team work, he also helped me with pride, sportsmanship, leadership, and overcoming my timidness. I lost Otis years ago, when he taught me a final life lesson, the real feeling of being heart broken. Shortly after I began 4-H, I started showing rabbits, and by all means they have taught me alot to, I also aquired a Sheltie named Ginger, she is 12 years old now, very lazy, and enjoys her retirement. My first rabbits were horriable, a five pound REW Netherland Dwarf and a siemese sabel Netherland. I bred many breeds my first few years including Holland Lops, Mini Rexes, Netherland Dwarfs, and Fuzzy Lops. Through all of these rabbits I always had my eyes on the sheen of a Satin. My mother felt that they were to large for me to handle. So when I went to a show with a wonderful friend, Kenny, I found a copper satin buck and brought him home. My mother did get over it but shortly after I brought him home he died. Later I found a doe, Fatsy Patsy, she was huge bueatiful and did wonderful on the show table, winning three BIS at the local fairs, a best six at an ARBA show, and numerous BOB. She graced me with many nice kits some of which I have today. Ever since Fatsy Patsy I have loved the breed, and continue breeding them today. I did take some time off, I married a wonderful man, Gary, and we had the sweetist little boy, Isaac. Isaac is now three and is getting into "manly" things, which generally leaves me out. However he enjoys his rabbits, he bought a opal Mini Rex at a show last fall. I don't know why but he was drawn to this breed. He enjoys looking for ringcolor on all the rabbits, dogs and his dad, he thinks its funny to blow on their hair to see if they have it. So all in all I have had many experinces through 4-H and my higher education. I have met alot of people and animals that have changed my life Otis, Ginger, Fatsy Patsy, Jermey, Linda, and Kenny to name a few. These people were always their for me, they always opened thier hearts and thier home to me. Some day I hope to help others in the same manner, I am currently a 4-H advisor, and am aiming to take the registars test in a few years with the future goal of becoming a ARBA Judge. I have already been invited to judge a few 4-H dog shows and really enjoyed being in that ring, it brings back old memories. I also am looking foward to all the people that I will encounter in the future, and the things I get to teach my son about rabbits and life. |
