| People always joke about "breeding like rabbits" however this only applies when you don't want to have young. Most of the time it is simple, place the doe in the bucks cage when she is in heat (red and swollen) and they will do the rest. I do not recommend as most breeders agree, to leave them unsupervised. Watch them to ensure they have breed, generally when he "falls off" of her then she was bred. However sometimes it is difficult to get them to reproduce. If the buck is not that intrested (which I saw for the first time) try placing him beside another buck to stir the competitive mating instict. You could also place him beside a doe to allow him to smell and become more intrested, just try to eliminate the opportunity for any bad experinces. If the doe is a problem, place her beside a buck, I have had alot of good experinces with this, generally she will begin her heat cycle within a day. Also as I was told by a fellow breeder, massage her back, this simulates the actions of the buck and makes her more receptive and her eggs will drop in preperation for breeding. I never allow any of my does to be over ten months of age before reproduction. This prevents most problems. Larger animals (my satins) can breed at eight months of age. Always breed responsibly, do not cross breed. Thier are many animals in this world without homes and families. Also it is exciting to try to create and work on some of these new breeds available, however think about it, you need a great understanding of genetics before you start breeding with intent of a specific outcome, general genitics is easy to work with in a certain breed, but to plain a create a new animal, it gets complicated, make sure you research your information before you take on and create new animals. |
