Very few people are motivated by seeing Eddie Murphy on the screen. I am one of those fortunate ones (or should I say unfortunate). The other day, I was witness to a movie Dr Dolittle and I tell you, when I left the theatre, there was a tear drop running down my cheek.
Infact, I was angry at myself. What good have I done for animals, except for those bread crumbs that I throw at the stray dogs, more with the intension of witnessing a fight than to feed them.
It is no big surprise that we humans take animals for granted. Afterall, if we can behave in the way we do with our fellow beings, we are capable of a lot more cruelty on animals.
Being driven by ones whims and fancies is nothing new in today's world. Add to it the pressures of modern day living and it boils down to caring for ones own selfish ends. Nothing new to the human race.
As I walked towards the bus stop, I began imagining all sorts of things. If only I could converse with those in the Animalia kingdom, I would do this...I would do that...
My wet eyes fell on a group of school boys pelting stones at a chameleon. In India we always form habits at a young age.Guess, its time we changed it all. Maybe, we can bribe the organisation conducting the research and get ourselves way down the list. Doesn't surprise you, huh?
Many organisations have sprung up pledging their support for animals but have they served the purpose? To a certain extent, yes, but lets accept it, even today this area of concern is a play ground for the glamour drenched to spend their free time.
Have we been successful in placing the message where it really matters - the heart of those heartless people ( if I can say that) who exploit animals for their living? No!
The bus in which I was travelling came to a screeching halt. I wiped my tears and looked out of the windshield. Our bus had hit a buffalo from behind and it was in a heap. Our bus moved back a little, swerved to its right and the onward journey resumed. Everyone me seemd too busy to care for the injured buffalo. Including me.
Perhaps we forget that our day begins with the rooster's call and ends with the glass of milk we take before going to bed.
In our race for survival in this fast-paced World, we tend to forget that animal care is a must for every human being. We need it for our own survival.
"The loss of any species threatens the survival of many others, including man." My Zoology teacher's face loomed large before my eyes as his words rang in my ears.
On knocking, my mother opened the door for me. I said, "mama, I am hungry. Can you get me something to eat."
She kissed me on the forehead and replied, "I have kept some cheese sandwiches in the fridge. Remember you don't have to feed those stray dogs anymore. I called up the minicipality people this morning and they caught them all. Also, how was the movie?"
