The Third Joyful Mystery
...while still on the single bead:

Ponder these virtues and ask God's grace to achieve them:

Virtue:
Poverty, Detachment from materialism

To remember the theme of the 1st Joyful Mystery, add born in poverty after Jesus' name in each Hail Mary Prayer.

Holy Name: Jesus, born in poverty

Announce:
The Nativity

Mary gave birth to Jesus in a stable in Bethlehem. Local shepherds greeted the Savior. And three kings from the east followed His star to pay homage to Him.

Meditate:

Jesus was born in the poorest of places, a stable.  As we are born into the world, He came with nothing. He would be poor, owning little and detached from worldly riches. His was not to be a life filled with glory, and money, and materialistic things, but with spiritual treasures. We will leave this world with nothing, just as we arrived in it.

The shepherds, leading their sheep, were welcomed, as were the poor in spirit -- the blind, the lame, and the deaf. Those possessed by spirits, those haunted by fears came.  All who came to Jesus had their spirits lifted and felt their hearts soar with joy.

What spiritual treasures have you stored up in Heaven?

Ask:

I ask you, God, to help me tto come simply and fully to You. Help me to lead the simple, hurtless life, spirit-filled and unencumbered by material extravagances and greed.

Heed Mary's present-day message from Medjugorje:

"Dear children, Also today, I bless you all with my Son Jesus in my arms and I carry Him, who is the King of Peace, to you, that He grant you His peace. I am with you and I love you all, little children. Thank you for having responded to my call. " ~ MoM, June 25, 1991

Scripture Reading, Luke 2: 6-12:

While they were there, the time came for her to have her child, and she gave birth to her first born son. She wrapped him in swaddling clothes and laid him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.

Now there were shepherds in that region living in the fields and keeping the night watch over their flock. The angel of the Lord appeared to them and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were struck with great fear. The angel said to them: "Do not be afraid; for behold, I proclaim to you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. For today in the city of David a savior has been born for you who is Messiah and Lord. And this will be a sign to you: you will find an infant wrapped in swaddling clothes and lying in a manger."
