Mary's Yes

'Can anything good come out of Nazareth?'
people said (John 1.46)
And yet, in that lost corner of the world,
God was preparing the way to renew all humanity.
To do this, from the start asked for the help of simple people:
Mary, an unknown girl, to be followed later
by shepherds, fishermen

Luck does not conceal Mary's unease when confronted
with God's unheard-of promise.
But from the beginning of God's covenant with his people,
He had begun to prepare this 'Yes' in the midst of humanity.
He prepared Mary,
who is not disbelieving as Sarah was (Gen 18.14),
who does not ask for proof like Zechariah (Luke 1.18);
she surrenders herself 'the servant of the Lord':
her life will no longer be simple a matter of the following her own plans
with greater or the lesser success.
Through it a great mystery will come about:
God's visit to human beings.

Her only support for this are in these words:
'Greetings, favoured one! The Lord is with you
The child will be called Son of God.'
He trust,
even thought it will be shared by others (e.g. Luke 1.42;2.17),
will be put to the test by the disconcerting path that Jesus takes.
Her struggle will not become any easier as time goes by;
it will continue to visit human beings through the Church,
through each and every believer.

What enables us to keep on saying a 'yesto God,
to take the risk of believing
that Christ comes to others through our own life?

How do I express this 'yes' in the daily life?
