| 2002 PROGRAMME OBJECTIVE The Department of "Physical Planning", Environment and Natural Resources, shall organize and develop its resources and community efforts, to ensure the protection, preservation and enhancement of the Environment and its Natural and Historical Resources, for the present and future generations. |

| 2002 KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 1) Promote policies and programs to enhance the protection, conservation and the sustained development of the natural environment and historical resources. 2) Encourage individual, community and non-government efforts for the protection, conservation and the sustained development of the natural environment and the historical resources. 3) Build institutional capacity through the strategic development of the Departments's emerging human resources. 4) Promote management strategies of all resources to improve the management of natural environment and historical resources. |

| 2002 KEY RESULTS 1) Formation of an effective and well-staffed Department of environment and natural resources. 2) Provsion of training opportunities both internally and externally. 3) Effective management of mining at beaches on the island, in conjunction with other relevant agencies and departments. 4) Development of an effective public awareness program for an island wide management of the environment and natural resources. 5) Conduct relevant workshops and seminars on environmental issues. 6) Formation of an environmental management plan for Nevis. 7) Organization of extensive beach cleanup programs and beach rehabilitation in conjunction with Works Department and NGO's. 8) Establishment of historical guidelines for Charlestown and its environs in conjunction with the NHCS. |
