Overall
Two Emergency Shelters and Multipurpose Centres are currently being constructed on the island. The two are being constructed at Pond Hill and at Hanley's Road. Works started in July 2002 and the 10 month contracts are due for completion in May 2003.
From a total of 5 bids, the construction company of Moorjani Edgehill Joint Venture (aka Moorjani Caribbean Ltd.) won the bids for the works.
The Pond Hill project is contracted for EC$1.03 million. Works are at an advanced stage and the Contractors are very optimistic in their quest to complete the building by the end of January 2003 (see photo below).
The Hanley's Road project is for EC$1.2 million. Because of some major changes in the plans, the works here are behind those of Pond Hill. Therefore, the works here are expected to be completed about two months later than was originally scheduled.
