Bargemen, Cartius: interrated clan of Fathers and Sons, claiming Castes for themselves, that operate the barges that crosses Cartius River. The barges are contructed of layered timbers of Ka-la-na wood and are towed by teams of river tharlarion. Their passengers are bound for Turia.

Cart, Leather Slung Fee: a public or rented coach for transporation of passengers, with seats facing each other. Its carriage is suspended by strong leather that causes a swaying, many times bringing on motion sickness for passengers. Large hides are often suspended underneath to store items such as grease bucket to grease the axles.

Harbour Side: sailors of COS refer to the left side of the ship by the port of destination and the right side of the ships by the port of registration. When both ports are the same, the left side is referred to as the Harbour side, while the right side continues to be designated as before, port of registration. The expressions "port" and "starboard" do not exist in Gorean language.

Harriga: a bosk wagon used by the Wagon Peoples.

Kurdah: a small, light circular tent, carried by a pack of kaiila , in which women, slave or Free may ride; the frame is of tem-wood and is covered by layers of white rep-cloths, used mainly in Tahari.

Laager: also known as wagon fort, it is a defensive wagon formation utilized by the Wagon Peoples. Wagons are arranged in a circle, end to end, tongues inward, and chained together, the front axle of one wagon chained to the rear axle of the next. The encampment, the draft animals, and any accompanying livestock are protected within.

Long Ship: a swift ship having two rudders, one removable lateen-rigged mast and a keel-to-beam ratio of 8:1; often used in military action, some are fitted as ram ships.

Ram Ship: a war galley having up to 3 banks of oars as well as masts and sails, named for the battering rams on the prow.

Round Ship: heavy cargo and passenger ships having up to 3 banks of 10 oars to a side, not as swift and ram ships, having a keel-to-beam ratio of 6:1, has two rudders and two permanent lateen rigged masts, carries a crew of 20-25 Free Men plus up to 200 oar slaves.

Silver Ships: the name given to Gorean space ships used for periodic visits to Earth for the harvest of barbarian girls and other goods are called "Voyages of Aquisition".

Slave Basket: a wicker basket strapped to a tarn to transport slaves.

Slave Box, Transportation: a small iron box used in transporting slaves.

Slave Wagon: a flat bedded, barred wagon, like a large cage with a door in the rear, in which many slaves may be transported at one time, their ankles chained to a bar that runs down the center of the floor, tarpaulins are often used to cover the cage and hide the cargo.

Umiak: a type of kayak used by the Red Hunters. It is made of Tabuk skin, stretched over a framework of driftwood and long bows of bones and lashed together with sinew cords.

Wagon, Cage: used to transport male and female slaves, this wagon has bars surrounding it that can be light or heavy in strength, depending on the slaves transported, male slaves are commonly chained by the neck, ankles and wrists to wooden stalls within.

Wagon, Common Slave: used to transport female slaves, it is covered in yellow and blue canvas with a single cnetral bar running the length of the floor, where the girl's ankles are attached, this bar is hinged on one end, near the wagon box, and locked near the wagon gate.

Wagon, Display: flat-bedded and use to transport female slaves, this wagon has metal framework that allows the girls to be chained in alluring positions and viewed easily by those passing, sometimes one end of the wagon is used as an auction block and girl's are sold directly from the wagon.

Wagon, Ice: a wagon specifically built to transport ice from ice houses to the residents of those Goreans wealthy enough to afford ice in the summer.

Wagon, Road: described as an heavier wagon compared to those used in the city.

Wagon, Springless: a wagon commonly used for public transportation for a fee, it is a jolting ride but is chosen may times by FW over the leather-slung fee cart because of the relative comfort of the ride.




Ankle Rack: a device used to lock a girl's ankles in a wooden stockage. girls who have been repeated runaways may be held in place to have their tendons cut her feet amputated.

Binding Fiber: stout twine made of strips of leather or of a fiber like hemp; a piece long enough to circle a girls waist 2-3 times is often used as belt for her tunic.

Binding Strap: a strap 3/4 inches wide and 18 inches long, commonly used for binding ankles and wrists of prisoners and slaves.

Blindfold, Gorean: consists of two rounded pieces of felt, 3-4 inches in diameter, and the binding which is several turns of a dark, thick, folded cloth, tied behind the head. The rounded pieces fit over the eyes, held in place by the ties or a scarf. It is normally used in transportation, the slave hood being preferred to in those instances.

Cage, Plastic: a means of exhibiting slave girls outside a Slaver's establishment, suspended from the roof of the portico or in a tier of cages with a comely wench inside.

Coffle: a method of chaining a line of slaves together for trekking, common methods are to link the slaves by the left ankle, left wrist or throat, alos the line of slaves itself is sometimes called a "slaver's necklace".

Girl - Capture Chain: a short chain specifically used to capture without serious damage, similar to the garrote in use but with a chain instead of thin wire.

Girl-Yoke: a narrow piece of wood with holes drilled in the middle and at each end. To secure a girl, thongs are looped through each end hole and through the neck, attached to both wrists and neck.

Handle-Tie: a girl's ankles are tied together with 12 inches between them and her wrists are tethered before her, this tether is then drawn tight between her legs and tied about her neck, forming a "handle" that a Master can used to lead her.
