SERIES TWELVE
1.
The aftermath of a rock climbing accident highlights serious flaws in Alex and Tom's relationship. The situation is aggravated by the appointment of a new nurse, the devious Claire Brightwell. Life threatens never to be the same again with the arrival of Claire. Booted out of the army for misconduct, she turns her sights on Cardale when she hears the practice is in need of a new nurse, using her mind, body and soul to score the position. Also, Will welcomes home his estranged eldest son, Tony.

The discovery of his son's drug problem sparks a tragedy for Will. Claire is already breaking the rules at work, and the move into Alex's cottage provides the perfect chance to test Tom's fidelity.

A deadly epidemic puts enormous pressure on the partners. Kate challenges Will about his involvement with a convicted felon. Claire shows her true colours when she questions the basis of Alex's relationship with Tom.

When Claire Brightwell is accused of stealing from a patient she sets out to get revenge and clear her name.

Will's decision to turn away non-urgent cases has disastrous consequences. Loyal receptionist, Carol becomes a sacrificial lamb because of Will's shortcomings. New doctor Matt's first day is a disaster when he kills off one of Cardale's oldest residents but Nurse Claire Brightwell is still keen to check out the new GP's bedside manner.

Alex and Claire are forced to face some inner demons when an army helicopter crashes and only one casualty survives. Matt turns to Kerri for a second opinion rather than Will.

A horrific sex attack leaves Leanne mentally scarred and unable to identify the perpetrator, who remains at large and ready to strike again. The true extent of Will's depression is revealed by his failure to deal with a medical emergency.

Tom Deneley is determined to hunt down the man who brutally attacked his son's nanny, Leanne Shackleton. Frustrated by the lack of police progress, he attempts to gather his own evidence to bring Colin Spinx to justice. But Tom's quest puts him on the wrong side of the law, which could lead to his own arrest! Also...Will is horrified by a plan to break up the partnership at the Beeches, Kate shares a kiss with a close friend and Claire is becoming more and more infatuated with Alex.

The problematic working relationship betweeen Dr Alex Redman and practice nurse Claire Brightwell reaches a head when Claire's erratic behaviour puts patients' lives at risk. When a routine injection nearly kills a patient and Claire is forced to perform an emergency tracheotomy, Alex demands that the increasingly unreliable Claire should be sacked. Elsewhere, Will's wife Kate becomes more than just good friends with pub owner James Strickland.

The writing appears to be on the wall at The Beeches as Dr Will announces his intention to break up the partnership - but his mind soon turns to more personal matters when the truth about wife Kate's infidelity is revealed. All of which gives dangerously psychotic nurse Claire the opportunity she's been waiting for... Just how will she repay him for all of the support he's given her? Also, Alex and Tom have to put their troubles behind them in order to sort out problems with an unborn child.

Claire starts to make unreasonable demands on Will and their friendship takes an unexpected turn. It all starts out as an innocent drink at the pub but the dishy doc is soon falling headlong into disaster when evil nurse Claire Brightwell accuses Dr Will Preston of raping her. She is later found dying from an overdose of booze and drugs. Proffessional to the end, Will saves her life and gets her to the hospital. Meanwhile, Alice's independence comes under scrutiny when Kerri discovers her alone and trapped in the bath.
12.
Tom and Alex finally have something to celebrate, while Will deals with the puzzling case of a local gardener whose physical fatigue mirrors his apparent exhaustion with life itself. And just when it seems that the malevolent spectre of mad nurse Claire has vanished from Cardale for good, it becomes apparent that her reign of terror is far from over...

There are wedding bells in Cardale! Despite the trouble caused by naughty nurse Claire, the two doctors in love, Alex and Tom, have not let her ruin their romance. These two have been through the mill and deserve the happiest of days, but will it turn out like that...? En route to the wedding Tom recieves an emergency call - a man has suffered a heart attack in a stranded cable car and Tom has to be winched up to the car to attend him. Back at the wedding, Alex explains that Tom will be late, but one woman uses the full proceedings to her advantage. Claire Brightwell is back and its Alex she wants!!
