Nebraska Powwows Reviewed

Fort Robinson Millennium Gathering, Fort Robinson, NE, June

This was a very small powwow with only a handful of dancers and three drums. The only contesting was for the women dancers. This was the first year of the powwow. The host drums and head dancers were from far away, disappointing local dancers who would have liked to honor dancers and drums from the area. Could have been better if it was a more traditional type of gathering with a more Native feel to it. There were no concession stands nearby and the restrooms were almost a quarter of a mile away. The complaints about the distance to the restrooms keep pouring in. Parking was horrible, especially for those with elders or small children. Hopefully things will be more organized next year.
