The following was written by Don Amorosi of the Northeast POW/MIA Network.  It's an example how we can all make a difference if we just take few minutes to write a letter to our elected officials.

President Bush
The White House
1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, N.W.
Washington, D.C. 20500

Dear President Bush:

I can't adequately or appropriately express the intensity of my concern for the welfare of LCDR (now Captain) Michael Speicher. In concert with other activists, I have tracked his case for years. Information has been collected, assimilated, and disseminated in the hope that concern about his plight might reach a fever pitch around the Country. Michael Speicher is a patriot, a hero, a citizen, and a person; all qualify him for treatment far better than he has received since January 16, 1991!

Reclassification from KIA-BNR to MIA is a huge step, but we know that evidence indicates that he actually should be listed as POW. As either MIA or POW, his rights (and his family's), under the Missing Service Personnel Law of 1996, have been grossly misrepresented. How can we turn our backs on an American patriot, and thousands of POW/MIA's from conflicts preceding his, while we jump through hoops to protect the rights of foreigners, running the gamut from illegal aliens to "detainees" from the Middle East? As a veteran, I am appalled at the casual disregard for the lives of those men and women whose service has insured our freedoms. I beg you to make a difference!

May I ask that you not USE LCDR Speicher as a pretext to invade Iraq? His situation has arisen from governmental ineptitude and expedience not of your making. Rather than cheapen our concern for this man by exploiting his situation to address a current problem, please illustrate your administration's true concern by focusing on the individual thus far forgotten (though not by all).

MICHAEL SPEICHER DESERVES TO BE HOME!! Join us in making this a reality.

                                                         Sincerely,

                                                         Donald C. Amorosi
