Working as a consultant in conjunction with Power Tech Associates, to supply metallurgical and other engineering support to the gas turbine industry. Clients include OEM's, user/operators, research institutes, and law firms. Representative recent assignments include:

  • Expert witness in disputes involving gas turbines; managed group contributions.

  • Prepared coating and component repair specifications for hot parts.

  • Conducted workshop on gas turbine materials, repairs, and coatings.

  • Provided independent analyses of compressor and turbine damage in a utility gas turbines.

  • Program manager for utility sponsored NOx abatement survey.

1987 - 1992
MANAGER, Material Evaluation Services, Corrpro Companies, West Chester, PA
Responsible for performance of PSG materials testing laboratory, including marketing, program development, and overall direction of group specializing in fatigue and toughness testing. Also provided consulting and engineering services for clients and in support of programs conducted by other company groups.  

1977 - 1987

Managed all materials activities for the Division, including: supervision of 10 professionals and technicians, management of $1.8M materials development and research program at Corporate R&D Center and within the Division, vendor qualification and process development, customer negotiations and presentations, failure analysis, and technical and business interfaces with international licensees.

  • Awarded Quality Achievement and Engineering Excellence Awards for role in organizing and directing programs to qualify Japanese vendors for the production of gas turbines to U.S. specifications.

  • Provided technical support and guidance for the company's component repair business.

  • Directed failure analyses on behalf of the company and its customers.

  • Provided technical support to litigation activities.

  • Actively participated in a 12-month National Research Council study on materials for advanced gas turbines. Co-authored report.

1973 - 1977
SENIOR ENGINEER - Metallurgical Engineering, Westinghouse Electric Corporation
Responsible for materials engineering support for the gas turbine division. Projects included nickel alloy blade manufacture, corrosion studies, diffusion and overlay coating development, and composite blade manufacture.

  • Introduced corrosion resistant blade coatings. Directed supporting R&D programs. Developed vendor processes. Prepared specifications.

  • Developed fuel treating and material protection schemes which helped enable the company to receive contracts in the Middle East worth over $600M.

1963 - 1973
SENIOR ENGINEER, TRW Inc., Cleveland, OH,  Materials Technology Group
Principle investigator responsible for a variety of company and government-sponsored programs involving advanced materials and processing development for the aerospace industry.

  • Planned and proposed programs valued to $200,000 for government agencies. Performed work required to complete programs, including direction of other professionals and technicians.

  • Fabricated and characterized metal-matrix composite materials.

  • Developed isothermal forging process for titanium blades.

  • Developed and patented nickel-base alloy with improved corrosion resistance.

  • Developed blade forging practices for advanced nickel-base alloys.

  • Developed diffusion bonding procedures for columbium alloys.
