EXPERIENCE

  • Vice-President of Power Tech Associates, Inc., a supplier of consulting engineering services.

  • Over 35 years experience in power generation component design and development.

  • In charge of combustor design, development, and testing for the Westinghouse Gas Turbine Division.  This activity included fuel injector design, fuel specification, combustor can design and supervision of laboratory testing for all turbine components.

Some of the specific activities included the following:

  • Manager of Combustion Design and Development for Westinghouse industrial turbines.

  • Design and development of fuel spray nozzles including techniques for measurement of spray drop size and spray angle.

  • Design and development of fuel handling and combustion systems for burning residual fuels.

  • Supervised the activity to control turbine blade and combustor corrosion in gas turbine operation, including tests which were able to provide specifications for allowable contaminant levels in gas turbine fuels.

  • Project manager on programs for design and testing of combustors using coal gas and other coal derived fuels. These combustor and fuel injector designs were installed in Westinghouse gas turbines at Dow Chemical which are now operating on coal gas.

  • In charge of the development effort which led to the field test of a water-injected gas turbine, for the purpose of NOx control.  The field test took place at Goldsboro, NC on a W251 turbine.

  • Project Manager of the DOE/NASA low emission program for developing advanced low emission combustor designs for a wide range of fuels.

  • Development of NOx prediction models and the design of low emission combustor systems. First development tests of hybrid and catalytic combustors for NOx control.

  • Project manager of the combustor design work for the DOE High Temperature Turbine Project.  This dealt with the use of liquid and gaseous fuels at turbine inlet temperatures in excess of 2500 degrees F.
