Disclaimer: I do not own Leo Corbett or Kendrix Morgan, or Power Rangers Lost Galaxy for that matter. This fanfic was written for pleasure, not for profit, so if you sue it'll all be for nothing. I promise! Author's notes: Geez, I love these one-shots. Doing something for us Leo/Kendrix shippers. I hate that the writers hadn't shown Leo really grieving for Kendrix when she died. Kinda my take on it. . .but it's a short one! Sappy and short ;-) My idea for the conversation between Kendrix and Leo came from her "interview" with the Fox Kids Magazine way back when LG first appeared. The song I'll be using is called "Dreams" by Boyz II Men. Try and listen to the song--you'll love it. Only In My Dreams By: stargazer_1017 I forced a smile on my face as the door to the quarters I shared with Kai and Damon swished open. "Yeah, I'll meet up with you guys later," I called out, waving slightly as I turned around to walk into the room. A pitter patter of footsteps told me that someone had come up to me. Probably try to change my mind or something. . . "Leo. . ." Yep, I was right--this time, it was Cassie, the Pink Space Ranger, calling out to me. Pink Ranger. . .I couldn't believe she was gone. She was just here yesterday. . .she was just here, sitting at the table and talking about the things in the universe that interested her. Nothing interested her more than-- "Taking a swim in the ocean!" Leo raised his right eyebrow. "A swim in the ocean? That's what makes you the happiest?" he asked. Kendrix grinned. "Of course, silly," she said, giving him a playful swat. She took a sip of the cocoa she was sipping and then said, "There's nothing more relaxing and refershing than taking a swim in the calm waters of a peaceful ocean. The first time I stepped into the waters of the Pacific in Australia, I was hooked to the water." "And so you became a scientist--on a space colony never heading back to Earth. On a space colony that might never even see another planet with beaches. . .ever?" Kendrix rolled her eyes and kept the smile on her face. "I wouldn't say ever, Leo. Think about it--to discover another planet with undisturbed shorelines. To step foot in the peaceful, cool sands and walking up to the calming water's edge," Kendrix sighed, putting her hand on her chin. Leo smiled slowly at the sight of Kendrix so calm. Just hours ago, she had stopped by hoping to talk with someone about her fears about other "hidden" discoveries in the Galaxy Book. Now, she was gabbing away like she had no fear and nothing else in the world holding her back. He was interrupted from his reverie by the motion of Kendrix's hand waving in his face. "Hey, Earth to Leo, come in Leo!" she joked. Leo snapped out of his thoughts and concentrated on Kendrix, who was grinning from ear to ear. Leo couldn't help the smile from crossing his face as he stared at her. "You okay?" Kendrix asked, slightly concerned. Leo shook his head slightly and then nodded. "Yeah, I'm fine. I just. . .was thinking too." "What about?" "You know, what you were saying?" When Kendrix raised her eyebrow slightly, Leo explained, "The beach? I mean, you must really love it, huh?" "It's just really romantic, I guess," Kendrix said, softly. She looked at Leo and then gave a nervous laugh. "I mean, it's . . ." "It is romantic, Kendrix," Leo agreed. When Kendrix blushed, Leo smiled. "When Terra Venture finds that uncharted planet, and there's the rolling sands and lolling shoreline, we'll walk along the beach together. How does that sound?" he asked softly. Kendrix looked back up at him. "You mean that? Is this like. . .like a date?" Leo shrugged and gave her a cocky smile. "I've got no plans for the next couple of years on Terra Venture. In fact, my whole calendar's free." Kendrix rolled her eyes, but a huge smile was on her face. "It's a date then," she agreed, a sparkle in her eyes. "It's a date." I finally take that step towards Kendrix, and then this happens. . .maybe it's my fault. . . "Leo, come on, you can't just sit here and--sit," Cassie said, making a lame attempt to get me to get off my butt and out the door. "Cassie, I really don't feel like it tonight," I replied, turning around. Cassie looked so shot and I felt bad. If anyone had gone through the pain of losing some one, Cassie was probably the one who felt it the most out of all of us. Kendrix had given up her life to save Cassie. I sighed. "I'm sorry, maybe some other time," I said softly. Cassie shook her head. "Leo, I'm really sorry. I mean, if it hadn't been for me, maybe Kendrix would be the one to get you up and out the door, instead of me," Cassie said. She sighed. "If it hadn't been for me--" "Don't say that," I said, shaking my head as well. "Look, we all know the risks of being rangers. We know--what may happen," I said, forcing my voice to stay calm. I couldn't break down, not right now. Cassie needed to understand. "Kendrix didn't die in vain, Cassie. She loved being a ranger as much as she loved life itself. As long as she knew she could do something meaningful as a ranger. . .I know that's how she'd want to be thought of and remembered as. Not as a ranger who had fallen during battle, but a ranger who made an accomplishment and given us the inspiration to do the best we can--as people, and as rangers." Cassie was stunned by my speech as I was. Had I actually made sense? All my feelings for Kendrix as a ranger came out in one big rush, and I don't know if she had understood a word of it. I realized Cassie did understand when tears welled up in her eyes and she nodded. "It's just hard," Cassie whispered, "but I guess Kendrix would want us to go on with life, wouldn't she?" I nodded. "Kendrix was that kind of a person," I replied. "She would be disappointed to see us like this." Cassie nodded again, but didn't reply. She turned around and headed outside. She stopped right in front of the door and turned around. "Are you still coming?" she asked. I shook my head. "You guys go ahead," I replied. "I just need some time for myself for a moment." Cassie gave me a faint smile. "Don't disappoint her, Leo," she said. "I won't," I replied. Cassie put her hand up in a slight wave and stepped outside. As soon as the doors swished closed, I turned back to head to my bed. The day was exhausting and what made it even harder to get through the day was not knowing there'd be the smile of the person who held a special place in my heart. I couldn't cry though--not now. A faint chill on my neck and cheek made me turn around for a moment. Was the Air Conditioner on too high? I looked up and saw that I wasn't standing right underneath the vent. Weird, I thought as I sat on my bed. I reached to the foot of the bunk and turned on a portable radio I had brought from Earth when I snuck aboard Terra Venture. For some reason, I couldn't pick up any stations. I fiddled with the digital scanner and checked the other stations. The faint words of a song caught my ear on a station. Here I am again, wondering If you're okay? Can't stop this troubled heart 'Cause we're apart--miles away Phone pressed up to my ear, wish you were here Holding me A face to go with your sweet voice, will bring me joy Totally As I started listening to the lyrics, the music started to get louder and clearer--and my eye lids were getting heavier and heavier. I laid on my side and brought the radio closer to me. I know I can't be there Baby it's all right I"ll be waiting for you, tonight I pray that you'll be there When I close my eyes Meet me in my dreams Tonight I wish I may, I wish you might Find the time when you sleep tonight Think of me and I'll appear before your eyes It's my Your my heart, my life, my girl Oh, I can't wait to go to sleep Because there's a possibility . . .you'll meet me. . . "Leo. . ." My eyes snapped open. I hadn't even realized I was drifting away. Wait a minute, had I heard her? No way. . .my sleepy mind was just grasping onto something. . .something no longer there. The song was still playing, and the lyrics were still going through my head. I smiled as I listened to the chorus playing again. I know I can't be there Baby it's all right I"ll be waiting for you, tonight I pray that you'll be there When I close my eyes Meet me in my dreams Tonight "Leo. . ." I know I heard that--and I realized maybe there was a possibility I could still be with Kendrix. She's gone here, but I know a place I can meet her again, where she'll never be forgotten. I sighed and got comfortable. "Kendrix. . ." The End =) Buy Posters at AllPosters.com! More... Choose from 100,000 posters!
