Crazy Tax is a game where you go around in a cab picking up people and dropping them off at their stops. Ooh, exhilarating
The cabs are all rubbish, and the other cars like ramming into you for some reason when you go the wrong way down a one-way street! ;)
The graphics are ok, but could be a lot better, and could be improved, but the sounds are even worse! There is one music theme in the background and the people say repeated stuff once in every five pickups! The game play is all right, for the first five minutes, mainly because it gets boring after about 3 customers. There are quite a few cabs and hundreds of pickups and stops, which you would think make the game better, but they are all around the same distance to go and all have the same amount of traffic, so doesnt redeem the game too much.
The Arcade Mode of the game is the same as the Free Mode, except for you choose how long you have to pickup customers. You may as well play on the Free Mode because at least there you dont have about 5 minutes to get twenty+ customers!
There is one level, one island, same difficulty, same customers. This gives the game an even more boring effect, if you could use lots of levels, choose the amout of cars on the road, like you can in Burnout (Which we highly recommend you get).
The playable cars have a very slim selection. 4 drivers each with their own cab, the heavier the driver the slower the car. We recommend Gena, because she is the lightest and has the coolest looking cab in the first place!
The Crazy Box Mode ,however, does redeem the game a lot. In the Crazy Box Mode you do missions at different levels, like getting a driving license on Gran Turismo 3: A-Spec (We recommend you get this game too!), just at the end of a license you dont actually get a nice new car, or a license to prove it, you get a Crazy Taxi stamp that says you have completed that mission.
As its on 3 different consoles and on each one its exactly the same game with no major changes its really a waste of Aklaims time trying to put it on as many consoles as possible without any major changes.
When they bring out Crazy Taxi 2, if they bring it out, there are an awful lot of things they could improve on, such as all the game glitches found in Crazy Taxi. They could also bring in a bigger selection of cars, and options such as the ones for Burnout or different levels which would make the game a lot better.
Overall I rate Crazy Taxi for the PS2 & (Gamecube & Dreamcast!) an extremely low 5/10 for its not so good game play, graphics, sounds and serious lack of things to do.
