| Thump thump Thump thump... The beating of my heart, pumps proceedingly at the start Of a new and freshly fallen light that shall brighten, Yet another person's world. Cold and brisk, the mist gathers at one spot. Settles on the ground for the earth to soak it up And spit it out, only to create a dark gray cloud. What beholds tomorrow? Will we ever know? Will there be another earthquake or any earthly woe? Thump thump Thump thump... The beating of my heart keeps pounding in the dark. In the dark dreary night in which I cannot sleep. The creeking, the moaning of an old building about to fold. But forever will it stand for it is wiser I was told. Tossing and turning, sighing in relief Hoping that my mind will rest at ease. Never has it happened for my thoughts have together crampened And forever be a puzzle to the wakened and the plain. Thump thump Silence now engulfs me, never to let go, Though my thoughts will always wander and never cease to show. Thump thump Slowing down little by little. The man in the moon, the cat in the cradle. Life makes no sense... spin your dradle. Life makes no sense solve a riddle. Go to sleep, count some sheep, the last one dies but don't you weep. At last you are now asleep. Natalie Adkins (c) 1994 |
