BARNEY  WENTZ

    Barney was born in Shenandoah, Pa. April, 21 1901.  He
graduated from Shenandoah High in 1920, and played both
football and baseball while there.  He attended Penn State
University, graduating in 1924.  He played Varsity Lacrosse
and Varsity Football.  As a member of the 1923 Rose Bowl
Team he was also a member of the Rose Bowl Hall of
Fame.  Barney was a member of the Pottsville Maroons team
from 1924 to 1928.
     Barney was a hardened linecrasher and very difficult
to bring down.  He alternated with Latone as the battering
ram weapon of the Maroons.
     Prior to his retirement in 1961 he was employed as a
Special Investigator and Auditor for the Commonwealth
of Pennsylvania.
