Howard E. Lebengood was born in Pottsville, Pa.- one of the few Maroons that claim that distinction!- on April 23, 1902. He attended Pottsville High School where he played in the backfield, punted, place-kicked and coached. He attended Villanova University and was a back and end with the Pottsville Maroons in 1923, 24, and 25. Lebengood's speed and pass catching ability allowed him to double as an offensive end. "Fungy" married a former Pottsville girl, Mary Jane Reed, and they had two sons. Their son Bob graduated from Reading High School and University of Pennsylvania. He played foot- ball and track. Their other son, Jack, also graduated from Reading High School, Valley Forge Military Academy, and Bucknell University. Played football and track, but was forced to give up football due to a serious spinal injury. During 1963, "Fungy" was an Acct. Sales Mgr. with Armour & Co. Meat Packers.
