George V. Kenneally was born in Boston, Mass. and attended Boston Public School System and Boston Latin High School, Kewatin Academy, St. Bonaventure's College where he graduated Bachelor of Arts in 1926. He partic- ipated in four varsity sports; football, baseketball, base- ball, and track and won sixteen letters in four years. Chosen All-Catholic end and on the small college All- American. Boxing champion at St. Bonaventure's, fought an exhibition bout with Harry Greb, Middlweight Champ of the World. George played pro-football with the Pottsville Maroons of the National Pro Football League in 1926-27-28; he was captain in 1927. In 1929 he was captain and ass't coach of the Boston Bulldogs; 1920 he played end with Ernie Nevers' Chicago Cardinals; 1931- Line Coach at Boston University. In 1932 he returned to the National Pro League as captain and ass't coach of George Marshall's first Boston team, the Boston Braves. In 1933-34-35 he was captain and ass't coach of the Philadelphia Eagles (1933 was Eagles first team). In 1936-37-38 he was part owner and Head Coach of the Boston Shamrocks of the American Pro Football League, Champions in 1936. From 1939 to 1949 George was Athletic Director, Foot- ball Coach and school teacher at Revere High School (Mass.). He took a leave of absence and during 1950-51-52 was the Line Coach at the newly opened Brandeis University, Waltham, Mass. He then returned to Revere High School, where he was a member of the faculty. Thirty-four years contact and association with football, 13 years in pro football, and chosen as an end on the All-Pro Team 1927-1933. He was also Commissioner of the New England Pro-Football League for a couple of years. |
