Edward J. Gillespie was born in Roxborough, Phila., Pa. December 30, 1882 and attended public school to 12th grade. He held the state champion- ship for 100-yards (9.8). He came to Pottsville in 1920 and worked at Frick Engineering Co. and installed the first ice plant at Ulmer's. He joined the Maroons in 1925 as trainer and played several games with them when they were short players (in one game, he scored two TD's!). He stayed with the Maroons until 1929 and many times conditioned opposing clubs who visited Pottsville as he was considered the best conditioner and trainer in the league. |
