A speedy and sure-handed receiver, Doyle was also an adequate blocker. Eddie Doyle, an end for the Maroons in 1925, was a West Pointer and a soldier to his fingertips. Pottsvillians always have been proud of the fact that he was the first American to die for his country in the African landing of 1943. His widow was a former Pottsvillian and, prior to World War II, the honored soldier visited here frequently. |
