MAROONS  AWAIT  CLEVELAND

    When Larry Conover comes here tomorrow with the Cleveland
Indians to do battle with the Pottsville Maroons, he most likely will
go away with the same thought in mind that Dick Stahlman carried
away- that of being sorry he was not with the locals this year.
     Conover is going to have his eyes put wide open when he sees
the Maroons against his beloved Indians.  The local team has gone
through a week of practice such as it has never been put through
before this season.  When they trot out on the field at two o'clock
tomorrow afternoon and start showing their stuff, the fans are going
to see an improvement in several departments.
     The Frankford and Rochester games showed Coach Dick Rauch
just where his squad was weak, and he has used the past week to
plug up the gaps.  Much time has been spent this week in developing
a forward pass defense, and also improving our own air department.
Pottsville has been handicapped in the last few games by the
condition of the field making it impossible for either the Maroons or
their opponents to use the air.  This prevented the Maroons from perfecting
a passing system of their own and gave them no chance to develop an air offensive.
     The Minersville park playing field is in about the best shape it has
been since the first few games.  It is not perfectly dry in some parts,
but the ground is firm.  This will give Pottsville an opportunity of
trying their own forwards, and will also give Walter French another
chance to show his "Red Grange ability" with firm earth beneath
his fleet feet.
     Every Maroons is in good condition and ready to go against
Cleveland, with the exception of the local boy, Fungy Lebengood.
His shoulder is still causing him a lot of trouble and it is feared that it
may keep him out of both the Green Bay and Frankford games.
