CANTON, OHIO, December 22, 1962 (AP)- The Pottsville, Pa. Maroons again are campaigning for the title they were denied 38 years ago- the 1925 professional football world champion- ship. Joseph C. Zacko, representing the 1925 Maroons has notified the National Professional Football Hall of Fame here that a collection of football momentoes will be kept out of the shrine unless the Pottsville team is recognized as the 1925 champ. In 1925 Pottsville was stripped of its title and franchises for going into another pro team's territory for a game with Notre Dame. Joseph C. Zacko, a Pottsville businessman, said Saturday he is determined the collection will not move out of Pottsville until the title is restored. He said several former members of teh Maroons will back the committee in efforts to bring the matter before the National Football League in its annual meeting at Miami Beach next month. "We will donate our collection to the Hall of Fame under one condition only," Zacko said. "And that is that the Pottsville Maroons must be recognized as the 1925 professional football world champions." "The record books must be changed to cor- rect the injustice perpetrated by the National Professional League. . ." |
