| Age: 15 Gender: Female Date of Birth: January 18, 1986 Hair Colour: Brown Eye Colour: Green Height: 5'6" Defining Physical Characteristic(s): Rayne is most recognizable by the intense, numbing shade of green in her eyes. About Rayne: Rayne Edris Hawk (Edris after her grandfather) was born to a family of Muggles, the only non-muggle being herself (with the exclusion of her grandfather, whom she would not know until a short time before the events in this storyline begin). This pregnancy was very unwanted by parents Adam and Maggie, who were for one reason or another convinced that any child they would bear would be the same as Adam's father, Edris. Edris, indeed a wizard, was passed off commonly as a raving and mad old man, whose days were numbered. Fearing this dementia in the family line, the couple seeked spiritual consultance by a Psychic. During this meeting they were told that their child would be blessed with the gifts of Magic. A witch. |
| In their eyes, just as demented and sick as Edris. The couple were horrified, but also very solid and strong in their religious beliefs (fear of God, you might call it.), and decided to carry through with the pregnancy. Perhaps this 'flaky psycho' who had predicted such a freak of a child for them would be wrong. Perhaps this girl would be just as normal as any other. Eight months having passed, the birth of the Hawk daughter took place. Edris, aware of his granddaughter's birth, however forbidden to see her, celebrated her young life and awaited the day he could show her the gifts and beauty of Magic. The young Hawk's parents were nothing more than mortified. From the day they arrived home from the hospital with this bundle of horrors, in their eyes, was the day the young girl's struggles would begin. This horrible neglect would carry through for nearly seven years of this young life, living in something of a cell in the family's damp basement. Adam and Margaret's 'tragic story' of their child's death, in her crib, during her first weeks, would hold steady throughout the years. It was an absolute wonder to the parents that this young "it", as she was commonly known, would live past her first year, in her damp hole of a home. What was more of a wonder, was the fact that this girl, deprived of all sunlight and proper nutrition, would continue to grow and develop as any normal child in any normal living conditions would. Little did this small, innocent life know, that on the eve of her seventh birthday, the neglect, the hate, the brutality, would come to an end. Adam and Margaret hurried to leave the house, distracted as they prepared themselves for one of their many socialite galas. Distracted as they were, after having looked in on young "it", the parents left the door to "it"s prison unlatched, and fled up the stairs to take their coats. The young girl, horribly neglected, but far from stupid, noticed this immediately. Her instincts told her ton run. She did. Out the door. Up the basement stairs. Where her instincts told her. Straight past her two shocked parents, pulling on their jackets... the only two faces she had ever known. Straight out the open door into the air, the night, she had never known before this day. Straight into the arms of two coincidentally placed armed and uniformed officers of the law. Her parents looked on in utter horror. A life sentence would have seemed suitable. The girl's parents were faced with multiple charges, including severe criminal neglect of a child. To the amazement of physicians and scientists alike, worldwide, this girl was in perfect physical health, a perfectly normal seven-year-old child. However, this normality was merely skin deep, and emotional scarring ran much deeper. When this young girl, who would come to be called Rayne Edris Hawk, was rescued, she could hardly speak a sentence, using fragmented words and statements she had been familiarized with. "Stupid." "Die." "Worthless." Rayne spent six years in a facility for neglected and abused children, constantly visited by her grandfather, as the two very rapidly grew incredibly close to one another. In this facility, with the loving support of her only prominent kin, Rayne learned to speak, trust and live as any normal child. Sadly, however, with scars running so deep, Rayne had developped acute panic disorder/social phobia. Over the years, she learned to control these on a larger scale, these two characteristics occasionally made themselves evident. They were most often triggered by memories of her parents, meetings with large groups or numbers of new people, and in rare cases, merely adults in a position of authority. An otherwise average individual, Magic aside, Rayne was able to leave the centre she'd known as a home for six years, at the age of thirteen. For the following two years she lived happily with her grandfather, slowly, very gently, being broken into the world of Magic, of her incredible gifts. She slowly became aware of the inextinguishable light inside of her. At the age of fifteen, with the aid of Edris and the administration of Hogwarts School for Witchcraft and Wizardry, Rayne was accepted to Hogwarts, entering as a Fourth Year student, due to her age. |
