| completely non-magical family of dentists (though don't we wish dentists were magical?). She was raised in a loving household Her parents' A-typical, perfectionist ways seem to be genetic as we witness these very qualities in Hermione. When Hermione was a year old, her father made a comment: "Ain't she cute?" Hermione promptly retorted "Isn't." and spoke her first word. Her perfectionism carried over into the muggle schools she attended where she was awarded the highest grades in her class. She would constantly study even though the material was often dull or uninteresting. Hermione would survey the children around her and somehow know that she was different on several occassions. Thus, it came as no surprise when she received a letter from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry that she had been accepted. While her parents were somewhat shocked, they were proud of their daughter and promised her that they would do all that they could to help fulfill her dream of being a witch in the challenges to come. After someone from the Ministry of Magic informed them about Diagon Alley and how to navigate there, her parents took her there and were seen awkwardly trying to exchange muggle money into galleons, sickles, and knuts. With her perfectionism in hand, Hermione soon is recognized as a brilliant student at school. Because she read all of her text books prior to coming to Hogwarts, she was ahead of her class even though she came from a muggle family. Her nonchalant, know-it-all attitude annoyed Harry and Ron at first; but, once they got to know each other better (whether by troll attack or in class), the three were soon inseperable. |
