Chapter 14:
Keeper

Harry walked out onto the quidditch field.  He missed playing quidditch.  They hadnt played the previous year because Hogwarts had hosted the Triwizard Tournament.
     Harry over here!
The rest of the team was sitting on benches on the edge of the field.  Many other people were also there to tryout for Keeper.  Harry saw Sheila and waved.
Okay, George said.  First well vote for the captain.  He took off his hat.  Write down your choice and stick it in the hat.  Dont go writing your own name.  It wont do for everyone to get one vote.
Harry hesitated.  Who should he vote for?  He could never have decided between the Weasleys.  He finally decided on Angelina.  He put his paper in the hat.
Okay, Fred said.  Ill count the votes.
He went to sit on an empty bench.  He came back ten minutes later grinning.
The votes are in, Fred said.  Angelina Johnson.... one vote!  Harry Potter.... five votes!
Way to go Harry! Sheila yelled.
Thanks for voting for me, Angelina whispered.  Im glad you won.
We lived with Wood for a long time, George said.  We can help if you need it.  You get to choose the Keeper.
Okay, Harry said to the crowd.  Heres what well do.  Everyone trying out for Keeper needs to line up.  Youll fly up there. Alicia will throw ten shots for each of you.  Whoever stops the most will be the new Keeper.
It took a few hours to complete the tests.  In the end, the only people left were Sheila and a second year named Mike, who had both gotten perfect scores.
Okay, Harry said.  Now well play sudden death.  You will each go to a goalpost.  Katie will throw for Sheila and Angelina will throw for Mike.  Whoever is the first to miss three times will not be the Keeper.
This took about an hour.  Finally, after what seemed like a thousand pitches, Mike missed a third time and Sheila became the Keeper.
Good job Harry, Fred said.  Wood took twice as long picking people.  One time a first year tried out as a joke. Lets just say he wasnt caught until his first game.  Wood spent a week in detention for that.
Harry, Sheila yelled, running over, I told ya I was good.  Whos this Wood youre talking about?
Oliver Wood, Harry said, our last Keeper and captain.
Harry walked up the stairs with the team.  When they got to the common rooms he said, I guess well have practice Tuesday and Thursday nights.
Well, Sheila said, I gotta go tell Melissa I made the team.
Harry walked up to the dormitories and fell asleep almost immediately.
