Back in the city center, we head off to the famous Gion district on a hunt for the elusive Maiko and the even rarer Geisha. Here, Rod shatters the peace of the genteel back streets by singing selected songs from the Mikado.
Our patience is rewarded. From out of a back street appears a Maiko. She quickly disappears into a taxi. Rod's jaw drops and he almost forgets to take a photo.
As the day draws to an end and we make our way back to the train station, the temperature is still up to 33 degrees.
And so ends our trip to Kyoto.
