Chapter 7 - The New Quidditch Team
Continued
Afterwards, they headed off towards Potions. When they entered the classroom, they saw Snape angrily scrawling something on a piece of parchment. They took the seats farthest from him, in the back of the classroom. Then, Harry saw someone very pretty walk past the door, surrounded by a group of giggling girls. He recognized her as Cho Chang, the girl he had liked since his third year at Hogwarts. She flipped her hair, and when she noticed Harry in the back of the room, she smiled at him. He looked away, blushing fiercely.
Snape stood up and bitterly looked around the classroom. He looked nastier than usual, and he looked like he hadnt slept in a month. He had dark circles under his eyes, and his hair was greasier than normal. Hand in your summer assignment about the five uses of salamander blood, he snarled. A rustle of paper filled the room as the students hustled to get their assignments. He looked them over briefly, and proceeded. I will begin my lesson today by giving you new partners, he said. Stand up, he ordered, Girls go to the left side of the classroom, and boys to the right. I will give have you all partnered up boy girl. He began directing the students to different tables.
Harry was partnered up with a Ravenclaw girl named Celeste Hunter. Ron was paired with Lavender Brown. Hermiones partner was a Ravenclaw named Brian Lester.  Harry looked at his partner. She had short, light brown hair and freckles, and her eyes were dark brown. She isnt ugly, Harry thought, but I wouldnt say shes anywhere near as pretty as Cho. He sighed, and began to cut his hemlock roots into small squares.
After the lesson, Harry, Ron, and Hermione headed back to the Gryffindor commons room. George and Fred Weasley were there, waiting for Harry.
Well, hello there Harry, said Fred, Good to see you!
Howve you been? asked George.
Fine, I guess, Harry said.
Just wanted to let you know we have a Quidditch meeting in thirty minutes, said Fred.
See you in a bit, then, said George. They left.
I wonder what teachers going to supervise? asked Harry. Ron shrugged.
Youd better hope its not Snape, he said, Hes in a horrible mood today.
Later, when Harry entered the locker room, he saw that the teacher wasnt Snape. It was Mrs. Figg. Harrys stomach dropped like a stone. Shes going to follow me everywhere, he thought angrily. She smiled at him, but he pretended that he didnt see her. He joined his teammates in the meeting. Fred cleared his voice and began to speak.
So, mates, as you all know, Oliver Wood, our former captain and keeper, graduated Hogwarts a year ago. So, our first order of business today is to elect a new captain, he said. He pulled out a piece of parchment and ripped it into six pieces. He handed them out. What I want you to do, he said, Is to write the name down of one person you would like to be captain. He passed around a quill, and everyone wrote a name on his or her paper. When the quill reached Harry, he didnt know what player to choose. He pondered his choices for a moment. He then decided to select Angelina Johnson, because she was one of the lead scorers on the team. When all of the votes were handed back to Fred, he looked at them all. Then he broke out into a huge grin.
The new captain, he exclaimed, Of the Gryffindor Quidditch team, with five votes, is He paused, and then nudged George, who automatically began a drum roll on the table.
