| Chapter 20 - Ron's Big News Continued |

| Dont listen to him, Ron. Hes just trying to ruin it for you, Hermione said. I know, Ron said, But hes right. My dad is the only one who would do it. I doubt it, Harry said, Im sure Mr. Malfoy would have killed to get that job. There are many people that want power, its probably just that the council wanted to prevent people getting angry if they found out that these other people werent chosen. I guess so, Ron said sadly. You know hes just jealous, Hermione reassured him. I mean, how many people get to say that their fathers run the Ministry of Magic? I guess not many, Ron agreed. Anyway, I dont care. I dont want to talk about this right now, I already know that there are gonna be tons of people coming up to me. Ill just try to avoid them. Harry noticed that Ron was looking at the people staring at him from around the room. Yeah, instant fame, Harry said, nodding slightly, I know how that is. At least youll know why so many people know you, I wasnt that lucky. I see what you mean, Ron said, standing, But lets just go back to the Commons Room. I dont want to draw a crowd when people start reading the newspaper. * * * * * * * * * Ron plopped down on the large red sofa in the Commons Room, sighing. Several times on the way there, he had been stopped and asked questions about his father. He didnt give anyone the answers they were looking for, instead he just told them he didnt know. Harry and Hermione tried their best to keep up with Rons quick pace. They could tell he really didnt feel like talking to the hundreds of students, and not to mention teachers, who wanted to badger him with questions. Harry couldnt understand why he seemed so upset at his sudden fame. Ron had always wanted to be in the spotlight, and now that he was one of the most well known students in the school, Harry would have expected him to enjoy it. But, being sensitive to Rons feelings, he decided not to say anything about the matter. Well, Ron said, his mood a little lighter. That was new. It should die down a bit after a few days, Hermione said. People are just really interested right now because its such recent news. It wont die down completely though, Ron, Harry warned him. People still come up to me all the time asking if Im really Harry Potter. I dont really understand whats so hard to believe, but I just answer their questions and I try to be as polite as I can be. Sometimes its hard when people get pushy, though. Like Colin and Dennis? Hermione laughed. Yeah, exactly. Theyll probably want to take your picture at some point this week, Harry said, rolling his eyes. He remembered how much Colin had bothered him during his second year at Hogwarts. Ill make sure to avoid them, Ron said smiling. A smile! Harry said, I havent seen one of those in a while. I know, Ron said, I just didnt expect something like this to happen. Its a bit sudden, you know? Yeah, I Harry started, but was interrupted when the portrait door blew open. The three turned their heads, watching as Ginny Weasley jumped through and slammed the door behind her. She leaned back against the door, panting for breath. Suddenly, she noticed Harry, Ron and Hermione staring at her, so she stood up. With as much dignity as she could, she started to walk towards the stairs, looking straight ahead. Harry noticed that her face was bright pink. People bothering you too? Ron asked her. She turned and looked at him. Just a little, she said sarcastically. Theyve been doing it to me too, Ron said, obviously trying to sympathize with her. Ginny looked over at Harry. Their gaze caught for split second, but then Ginny turned away, reddening worse. Well, Im not really in the mood to talk, Ginny said, So Im going upstairs. See ya. She quickly walked up the stairs. Why is she in such a bad mood? Hermione wondered aloud. Uh I dont know, Ron said. Harry thought it sounded like Ron did know, but wasnt telling. Oh well, Harry thought to himself, its none of my business. Its probably just the people in the hallways bothering her too much, Harry said, covering for Ron, but at the same time wanting to see his reaction. Yeah, thats probably it, Ron agreed. Harry was about to talk again, but as he was thinking of what to say, he saw Nearly Headless Nick float through the wall. He had always wondered how Nick had become a ghost. Many people thought that anyone who had been murdered would turn into a ghost, but Harry knew that couldnt be true. His parents would have been ghosts if that were how it worked. Did you ever wonder why some people become ghosts and others dont? Harry asked Ron and Hermione quietly. |
