| Done already, are you? Ron asked her. She put the shoes down. Yes, I bought a really pretty dress, she said, smiling. So, Harry said, Lets see it then. Hermione pulled the box to her chest and tightened her grip. Its supposed to be a surprise, she said. Youll see it on Friday. Ron rolled his eyes sarcastically. Whatever you say, he sighed. Anyway, Hermione said, changing the subject, Whos up for a butterbeer? The vote was unanimously yes, so the three students headed off to the Three Broomsticks. Although the shop was very crowded when they got there, they managed to get a decent table. They ordered their drinks and waited patiently for the waitress to bring them their butterbeers. The girl went rather quickly, and brought the drinks in a matter of minutes. Harry, Ron and Hermione eagerly took their drinks from the girl and began to drink them. Harry sipped his butterbeer lazily, feeling the immense warmth seep through his body. He looked around the restaurant, noticing that many Hogwarts students were there. To his right, he saw Dean Thomas and Seamus Finnigan eating a very large meal. On the other side of the room, he observed that Fred and George were fervently writing something on a long sheet of parchment, with Lee Jordan peering over their shoulders. Hey Harry, Ron said, interrupting Harrys thoughts, Isnt that Cho? He was pointing across the room, and Harry quickly looked. He saw something that made his insides turn icy. Cho was sitting with a popular 7th year boy that Harry recognized from the Ravenclaw Quidditch team. He was tall and muscular with brown hair, light blue eyes, and a square chin. Many of the girls in Harrys year had talked about him a lot, but Harry had forgotten his name. Harry could feel jealousy swell inside of him. Looks like Cho fancies that guy, Ron sniggered at Harry. Harry shot him an annoyed look, then looked back up at Cho and the boy. The boy had stood up, and he looked like he was going to leave. Cho stood up too, smiling. They spoke with each other for a second, and then Harry noticed him saying See you later. Then Cho did something that made Harrys stomach flip. She stood on her tiptoes and pecked the guy on the lips. He kissed her back, and then left the restaurant. Harry, fuming with jealousy, looked at Ron. Ron just sat there, his mouth slightly open. Hermione stared at Harry too. Harry took one last sip of butterbeer, and then pushed it away. Im not thirsty anymore, he said angrily. Hermione gave Harry a distressed look. Perhaps we should leave, she suggested. Good idea, Ron said nervously. The three stood up and, after putting their money on the table, they left. They walked in silence all the way back to the castle. Ron and Hermione obviously had no idea what to say to him, so they stayed silent. Harry had no interest in speaking with them at that moment. He was inflamed with anger and jealousy. Why had Cho led him on like that? Right now, he hated everything about her, right down to the way she flipped her hair when she said goodbye. She would obviously be going to the dance with that guy, and now Harry didnt know who to ask. He didnt want to end up the way he did last year, having to go with a girl who he didnt even like. |
