| Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone A Review by the Webmaster ***** Out of 5 On November 16th, the movie Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone was released in theaters. Daniel Radcliffe stars as the main character, Harry Potter, while Rupert Grint and Emma Watson star as Harrys friends, Ron and Hermione. The movie is based on the New York Times Best Seller by J.K. Rowling. This movie grossed about 93 million dollars during its first weekend, setting a record which topped that of the movie Star Wars Episode One: The Phantom Menace. Harry Potter is an eleven year old wizard, who is treated horribly by his muggle, (or non-magical people), wizard-hating aunt, uncle, and cousin, the Dursleys. When Harry finds out that he is a wizard and is accepted into Hogwarts, a school for young wizards and witches, he discovers that his parents were killed by an evil, all-powerful sorcerer named Voldemort. While at Hogwarts, Harry encounters a three-headed dog named Fluffy, a dragon, a professor who can transfigure into a cat, a sport called Quidditch, and a magical stone that makes one immortal or able to live forever. When someone tries to steal the stone, Harry and his friends must track down the potential thief. Could it be the incredibly evil Voldemort or perhaps one of Harrys professors? Even if you arent a Harry Potter fan, give this movie a try because its special effects and suspenseful moments are truly awesome! This movie is rated PG, and is about 2 hours and 30 minutes long. It was directed by Chris Columbus, who also directed the Home Alone series. |
