Fred watched the azure-eyed teen sit up, his eyes questioning her as he stared into the depths of her soul. She was captivated by his innocent-eyed expressions, wondering how long it would be until he too, saw the error of his ways and turned her in for the barest amount of food.
She watched his curious-eyed expression, as he looked at her, confusion ringing in her head as he spoke in a language she was sure she'd once knew. Cows were forbidden to speak, the Master's made sure of it, even going as far as cutting off the tongue of less-obedient cattle to prove the point.
And yet, this human was talking to her, acting as if he were one of the masters. She wanted to hit him for his dissidence, and praise him for his courage.
But, still, he was a cow, and cows were to be silent at all times. Why did the dark haired teen not obey? Even she, a cow that was now free, obeyed the rules, not wanting her voice to echo in the dark, still of the cave.
"The cow went this way," a voice from outside the cave echoed through. Fred's eyes widened as male turned his head, listening to the sounds outside, and walked toward her. She held in the scream of terror as he bent down, picking her up in his strong arms.
She felt safe. She hadn't felt safe for ages, ever since the masters had forbidden her from speaking to the other cows that she barely recognized as human.
The teen smiled at her, another crime as far as the masters were concerned. A smile was seen as an act of hope, and one that Cows were forbidden from doing, the cattle were merely to work, and be eaten when their usefulness was over.
The green-skinned master came in, her red antlers looking at them, and Fred diminished under her knowing gaze. "Cow!" the woman said, "you have found the other cow! You have proven yourself useful!"
She whimpered, gasping as she saw a beam of red light throw itself from the black-haired teen's eyes. It connected with the master, who screamed in pain as her body disintegrated from the massive heat his eyes let off.
As Fred fell asleep, she wondered, would the male be the one to save her? She hoped so, because life as a cow sucked.
