History

While Uruguay coach Victor Pua has been praised for his policy of handing youth its chance, he is also accused of employing negative tactics at times.
De Los Santos has been used as an example of the defensive policy he employs and that may be cruel on a midfielder whose qualities may be underestimated in his homeland.

Started in nine of Uruguay's qualifiers and didn't let the side down.

If England have Beckham, Argentina boasts Veron and France rely on Zidane, then Urugauy's midfield maestro is Pablo Garcia.

While he may not catch the eye with stunning bursts forward or spectacular goals, he is the main man for coach Victor Pua as he holds the midfield together and breaks up the oppositions attacks with supreme efficiency.

Garcia is an old head on what are relatively young shoulders.

If there were any doubts that this Italian based midfielder deserved his placed in the Uruguay side, they were well and truly silenced as he turned on some stirring displays during qualifying.

Seen as a bits a pieces player without an obvious natural position, he made up for that by doing several jobs for coach Victor Pua as his boundless energy was crucial in the 17 ties he started.

Somewhat of a fringe player at Roma.

He has the capacity to come to life when it matters most and can be employed as an out and out forward.
