Magical Creatures
This is a collection of some of the Magical Beasts that appear in the first four Harry Potter books, and a breif explanation of each. To get a full list you can read 'Magical Beasts and Where to Find Them' by Newt Scamander.


Acromantula :   A giant eight eyed spider with near human intelligance and is untrainable and highly dangerous. A colony of these giant spiders has been established in Scottland.

Basilisk :   a wizard created serpent, bred by hatching a chicken egg under a toad.  This brillant green serpent is very dangerous and deadly . It has very venomous fangs and anyone who looks directly into its yellow eyes will die instantly.

Centaur :   A creature of extreme intelligence and capable of human speech. They have  a human head torso and arms joined to a horse's body which may be of any color.

Dragon :   This is the most famous magical beast coming in many breds. They are very hard to hide and should only be approached by highly skilled and trained wizards.

Flobberworm :   The flobberworm is a very boring creature who moves very little. The flobberworm prefers lettuce but will eat almost any vegitation.

Ghoul :   This is a very ugly but not dangerous creature who usually resides in attics and barns belonging to wizards, where it eats moths and spiders.

Gnome : The gnome is a comman garden pest. It has a large head and hard, boney feet.

Grindylow :   This is a water demon found in lakes throughout Britain and Ireland. It feeds on small fish and is agressive to both wizards and muggles. Although merpeople have been known to domesticate them.

Hippogriff :   Hippogiff's can be found worldwide, with the head of a giant eagle and the body of a horse. It is possible for this creature to be tamed although this should only be attempted by experts. Eye contact should be maintained when approaching a hippogriff and bowing shows that you have good intentions, if this greeting is returned it is safe to draw closer.

Leprechaun : This is a michievous magical creature only found in Ireland. Lebrechauns enjoy attracting muggle attention. They produce a realistic looking gold that disappears after a few hours to their great amusement. Although they are known pranksters they have never been known to have done lasting damage to a human.

Merpeople :   Merpeople exsist throughout the world and vary in appearance as much as humans. The lives of the merpeople are as mysterious as that of the centaurs. They are not a beautiful creature as muggle fairy tales precieve them to be, but they all share the same love of music.

Niffler:   This is a fluffy, black, British beast that loves anything glittery. A niffler may be gentle and even affionate but should never be kept in a house for it can be destructive.

Phoenix :   The phoenix is a beautiful, swan-sized, scarlet bird with a long golden tail, beak and talons. The phoenix can live to a very old age, as it can regenerate itself  bursting into flames and rising as a chick from the ashes. The phoenix also has a magical song to increase the courage of those pure of heart and have tears that have powerful healing properties.

Pixie :   This creature is eletric blue in colour and is very michievous. It delights in tricks and practical jokes, and although wingless it can still fly.

Red Cap :   Red Caps are dwarf-like creatures that live in holes of old battlegrounds or wherever human blood has been spilled. They can be repelled easily by charms and hexes but a very dangerous to a solitary muggle.

Sphinx :   The egyptian sphinx has a human head on a lions body and has been used by witches and wizards to gaurd valuables and secret hideaways for over a thousand years. Highly intelligent it delights in puzzles and riddles and is only dangerous when what its gaurding is threatened.

Troll :   The troll is a fearsome and violent uninteeigent creature who generally converse in grunts that appear to consititute a crude language. There are three types of troll : mountain, forest and river. The largest and most vicious being the mountain troll.

Unicorn :   This is a very beautiful beast found throughout forests of northern Europe. It is a oure whit, horned horse when fully grown, though foul are initially golden turning silver before achieveing maturity.

Werewolves :
  The werewolve is found worldwide,. Humans turn into werewolves only when bitten. There is no yet cure but there have been many developments in potion-making to help calm the horrible side effects. Once a month, at the full moon, the otherwise sane normal wizard or muggle transforms into a murderous beast.
