Hey, Put Down That Paperclip!

The Story of Lancelot and Elaine

This comes from an assignment in my English class. We were reading T. H. White's Once and Future King at the time. Each class member was given a certain concept from the story about which to write a "song." I got somewhat carried away with mine and ended up doing a four- or five-minute med. rock thing. Here are the lyrics for it. If I find myself to be ridiculously famous one day, I'll probably forget about this song completely and come up with something that sounds just like it.

Oh, how the Round Table
Was made considerably unstable
As Lancelot endured the pain
Of being loved by the fair Elaine.

King Pelles said, "Please save my daughter;
The Cornwall Sisters put her in boiling water.
She is getting relentlessly hotter.
Please rescue her from this senseless slaughter."

Oh, how the Round Table
Was made considerably unstable
As Lancelot, 'neath Arthur's reign
Did be loved by the fair Elaine.

Well, Lancelot, being the Table's best knight
Rescued the maiden from her frightful plight.
He got drunk and went to bed that night
And when he awoke, boy, was he white!

Oh, how the Round Table
Was made considerably unstable
As, 'neath the reign of the son of Igraine,
Lancelot was loved by the fair Elaine.

Interlude goes here

Lancelot eventually returned to the queen
And told her of his and Elaine's little "scene."
The queen at once grew very mean
And told him to go jump in a tub of chlorine. (Whatever rhymes! Ed.)

Oh, how the Round Table
Was made considerably unstable
As Lancelot went totally insane
Upon being loved by the fair Elaine.

After Lance's and Jenny's scrimmage,
In ruins was the Round Table's image.
Sir Dulac went completely nuts
And ran off into the woods like a putz.

I'm now pleased to say, my friend,
That I've just about reached the end.
No longer shall you endure this refrain
Of Lancelot Dulac and the fair Elaine.
